Amazing Adventure in Madagascar

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 6, 2017
I searched for tours in Madagascar. I found Remote River Expeditions on this website. What a find! Gary Lemmer planned a flawless and well organized itinerary for a solo traveler. I told him of the sites I wanted to see and he planned for that and much more... I saw lots of wonderful places that I will remember forever. Did I say an affordable itinerary (YES), great food (YES), and wonderful hot showers (YES). Nice beachfront accommodations. My guide, Stella and driver, Roman were wonderfully attentive in making my experience safe and exciting. Thanks Gary, Baholy, and to everyone that was involved in making my trip totally amazing.

Im quite picky and didnt have any problems here. Room was massive, with 2 floors. Bed was on the small side, but fine. had a mosquito net. Living room was lovely. restaurant is the best thing ever. Even after we had to move hotels I ate every meal there. It's right on the beach. The staff I interacted with were all very kind. Relatively central in the town. IF i go back to Morondava I will stay here :)

If you are not in a hurry, it is the perfect location for acculturate to African time, reading a book with the feet in the sand, laze at the swimming pool, or sip a "rhum arrange" at the bar.
I had two different rooms (close to the restaurant) during my two stays, both were great with much space and confortable beds. The personnel is very kind and offers good service, they were very helpful when I was searching for my car driver. The food is excellent. Want to visit again this place.

Room tip: rooms close to the restaurant are quiet.

We stayed at this hotel as the last night of our trip around Madagascar before flying back to Tana. It was a wonderful place to rest after the travelling. The direct entrance to the beach is great and the hotel's garden is like taken straight out of a movie set. The food is great. One thing to complain about could be how hot it was there. The AC was working on full effect all night long but hardly helped at all. In fact, it was colder outside than in the room, but we couldn't open the windows as there were no mosquito nets in them. Also, as in many tourist-filled places, keep an eye out on all your valuables. Very difficult to contact them too, no e-mail address and they don't respond on facebook.

We, 4 adults, started here after a flight from Tana and spent two nights before driving north to the Kirinny Forest. The hotel is great, the staff very friendly and helpful. The room (11) we had near the pool was unfortunately very noisy at night due to the neighbouring hotel generator. Fortunately the staff were very accommodating and changed the room for us.
The food is superb, not much more to be said. A short walk over the dunes to the beach and watching the sunset from armchairs under palm trees is an experience to remember.

Worst stay of my life. Don't get me wrong - the place itself is fantastic, but unfortunately the owner (Gary) has become an unstable psychopath. He can be a really nice person in the morning, but every evening he comes out to harass his customers with insulting jokes and unreasonable demands. When I tried to confront him during one of his rage fits he refused to listen to me and threatened to throw me out of the hotel in the middle of the night.
He is dangerous, and by dangerous I mean really dangerous. One day this is going to end in a bad way. If you value your life, don't stay at Chez Maggie.
