“Be ready to argue”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2012 via mobile

Nice hotel but poor service. We arrived at 12pm and wanted to check-in but the rooms were not ready. Fair enough, so we decided to go ski. Back at the reception at 6pm, following which we were told the rooms were still not ready. After a 45 mn argument, we managed to get some of our rooms.

Big surprise the morning after when we requested a late check-out and were advised that we needed to vacate the place at 12pm sharp and told that they would not give us any extension despite the delay in getting the room the previous night. After another hour of arguing they agreed to give us a late checkout for only two rooms out of five...

Upon checking out, one of us got charged the cost of five rooms without even being authorized and despite the fact that the four other rooms were paid for... And staff again advised that there was nothing they could do... So we had to put a claim at our bank and cancel the card...

And also - we got late to the airport because the hotel didn't organize the airport transfer we requested 48 hours earlier!

Apart from that, it's an old hotel but with nice access to the slopes.

On the 28th of February, 12,500 Euros got stolen from my pants while being in my room. Part of it is my fault since I didn’t put it in the safe but no one helped, the security didn’t call the manager, noone did, they did a conspiracy to cover it up and they didn't even bother to call the manager. The office desk, said he was the manager so they wouldn't call the real manager to complaint about it. Such matter, should be taken care of in a delicate way, not in the way they handled it covering it up especially is such a good reputation hotel.
Anyway what's done is done now, but i wanted to complain to someone in the managerial position, if they can contact me to hear about my complaint, it would be great.
thank you

My overall experience was very poor. First the hotel:

1) The rooms are in need of updating. Flats screens are nice, but it does not make up for shabby carpets and a worn feel

2) The Internet is horrific!! OK it is the intercon, so I expect to be charged, but $35 a day for service that is very slow and intermittent.

3) The main lobby is quite nice, but the restaurants and especially the shopping/Ski rental level are in need of updating.

4) The service is quite good by middle eastern standards, but not by international standards. I was asked multiple times for my "voucher" for my lift tickets and ski rental (supposedly included in the package). It turns out this was nothing more than my reservation number which they should have had as I was already checked in.

5) great location, but poorly set up for skiing. Yes, the "Refuge" lift is connected to the hotel, but there are no ski lockers, and to get from the rental area to the ski area requires going up the elevator which is not designed for ski equipment, and then through the restaurant??.

The hotel is absolutely jammed on weekends, and everything shows the hard use from these days.

The resort: Dodgy lifts, check. Poor grooming, check. Inexplicable closures, check. Potholes large enough to swallow a humvee on the roads, check. Huge weekend crowds, check. What else would you want?

With all of the above said, it is an interesting experience to be on the beach in beirut one day, and skiing the next. The mountains are very pretty, and the views are amazing. I would certainly not come to the hotel or the ski area only for skiing. It has a long way to go to be a "destination". As a side trip from beirut it is worthwhile.

Have read the other reviews on the site so decided to add mine as I fundamentally disagree with the comments on service etc. This hotel seems to hold the position of the heart of the resort and it is justified. Bear in mind this is Lebanon not Paris and the Intercon not the Four Seasons. You can ski from the hotel (not beginners though), and the hotel has a good range of restaurants. Yes it is pricey, but anyone who has skied in a European resort will know that prices are high in resorts in general. We interacted with alot of staff (bowling area, pool, bar area, front desk, all 3 restaurants) and found tem nothing but helpful and accomodating, especially as the weekend we were there there was not skiing, so some frustrated customers. We did not stay in the hotel but ate there every day (breakfast buffet for USD18 is a must). Would not hesitate to recommend it.

about the resort, Kafraya is perfect for skiing breathtaking mountains and very nice facilities. The think that bothers is lack of order and many people don't wait in line.
The hotel has a nice warm pool...
PS. The wi-fi was not working

I have stayed in the Mzaar Intercontinental last month for a couple of nights, but i wasn't impressed at all with what the hotel has to offer. the rooms are small and very dry. the pillows are ok though. The breakfast buffet is versatile, the most shocking thing is the service.

I read all the 35 reviews before deciding to go into my own.
Unfortunately and fortunately all the 35 reviews are correct.
This hotel has a bit of all, from good to bad depending on the season, depending on the waiter, depending on the choice of room.
After spending more than nights at the Intercontinental Mzaar in the last six years I can fairly say that the staff is the main problem. Nice people from the surrounding villages that know nothing about the art of hotels management.

The intercontinental has one of the best locations an hotel can have in Lebanon, surrounded by the best ski resort in the middle east in winter, and a huge choice of mountain activities in summer that would make it a premium location for families with kids. A couple would spend couple of days relaxing in the spa, or enjoying the wonderful weather and leaving the kids make use of every single minute out in nature.

If you have the possibility of booking a room with a view on the ski slopes, since they are far too expensive, that would be an amazing experience specially during the high season of events like the fire dragon or the Mzaar summer festival where the huge fireworks will decorate the mountain with their reflective colors on the fresh snow.

The solution to the visitors problems and comments is very simple:
- make the rooms cheaper
- make the food and drinks cheaper, they are too expensive for nothing
- train the staff or get professional guys from Beirut
- make the valet parking cheaper (that is a very important problem)
- take care of your customers like if they were unique
- improve the food quality

I love this hotel, I love it's location... Just improve please
