This attraction could be SO much better if there was just a little maintenance carried out. There was funding from Quebec in 2002 and nothing seems to have been done since then! The whole site was overgrown with nettles, etc (making some areas inaccessible), signs were faded or illegible, paths were crumbling, litter had been stuffed into the roman tombs! Real shame, as the site itself is very important historically.

When ever I come to Lebanon I must visit Byblos which is one of the oldest cities in the world.
Byblos is a wonderful city, clean, well organized and offers lots of attractions to the visitors such as the Crusader Castle and its surrounding .

Even though the remains of the Crusader Castle is sure to catch your eye first, the site has ruins going back as far as prehistoric times. It's really fascinating to see how the place evolved through the centuries - prehistoric, roman, crusader, ottoman... Older structures were sometimes incorporated to new ones - for instance the Crusaders used roman columns to build stronger walls around the castle. You can easily spend two hours touring the site. There are no explanations for the castle but there are a few explanatory signs for other parts of the site, which overviews the sea.

Thank allega

Byblos is one of the top contenders for the " Oldest continuously inhabited city in the world" award. modern scholars say the site of Byblos goes back at least 7000 years.
Byblos or Jbeil in Arabic , is located on the coast 37 Km north of Beirut. it is a modern town with an ancient heart. in the old town of Byblos, medieval Arab and Crusader remains are continuous reminders of the past. nearby are the extensive excavations that make Byblos one of the most important archaeological sites in the area. the site contains layers upon layers of ruins, dating as far as the stone age and extending through the more recent Ottoman era.
with its many restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and hotels, Byblos is well prepared to welcome tourists.
being a Lebanese I visit Byblos at least 4 times per year. it is a beautiful city with a lot of excellent restaurants and cafes. during summer a lot of concerts take place inside the ruins.
