“Great site in an amazing city!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2011

Byblos is a thriving modern town with an ancient heart. It is one of the oldest continually inhabited towns in the world and it is also considered to be the birthplace of the modern alphabet.
You can start your visit to Byblos with the old harbor which is sheltered from the sea by a rocky headland, and nearby there are the excavated remains of the ancient city, the Crusader castle, the church of St. John and the beautiful old market area (The Souk). There is also near the castle the Wax Museum which is interesting too.
You can find many restaurants, bars, souvenir shops & resorts all around the city.
I highly recommend you to visit the old souk restaurants & cafes by night (great view of the sea & friendly atmosphere).
Byblos is a magical town which mixes tradition with sophistication & the Crusader castle is a must when visiting Byblos.

“Fascinating site!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

We went to Byblos as part of a tour group and, even though we arrived late in the day, were blown away by the beauty of this site. It is the oldest continuously populated place on earth and you can feel the history there. The people were so accomodating and nice. Visit the ancient souk while there and buy some of the things for sale. Also, there is a restaurant there - a fish market - right on the sea. Just a wonderful end to a wonderful day!

“Great Archeological site in a beautiful city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2011

The castle is in a fairly good condition. If you get a tour guide you'll be able to appreciate the place better. The places seems to be much better maintained than the Saint-Gilles castle in Tripoli although the historical significance of the latter is much greater, however the location of the Byblos castle is just much from a tourists' point of view.
If you choose to get a tour guide, s/he probably mention that the small structures that you see between the castle and the beach are the remainings of the pheonician city. You'll probably be taken down into one of the many burial chambers found in the old city.
Byblos in itself is a magical place too. The city is one of the oldest permamently inhabited settlements in the world, with sites dating back to almost 5000BC, not to forget the roman columns, the crusader castle and the old souk from the ottoman period. A hub of archeology and history indeed.
You can also take a walk through on the port or enjoy a quite drink in one of the many bars or restaurants present all around the city

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2011

The whole place is beautiful i visited in june this year and july last year , managed to cram in as much as i could , the castle was amazing , if u are lucky enough to go in june july u will catch the festival also , the stage for this can be seen from the castle or harbour . The lebonese people are the most welcoming u will ever come across . The old souk is best visited at night to take in the atmosphere and in the day for the shops sellin clothes shoes ect and traditional items . Also nearby is ao seafood restaurant called the aal baher about a 4 min taxi ride in jeibel the food there is second to none and excellant service too , i would recommend a visit to lebanon to anyone , as for the general safety i saw nothing that made me feel unsafe infact as a single female traveller i felt safer than in some areas of the uk .

“Nice castle in the best part of Lebanon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2011

Byblos is a really nice little village by the see, looking towards Cyprus and parts of Beirut.
The Crusader Castle is a nice attraction worth visiting while travelling through the country. There are also very nice "local" shopping opportunities underneath the Castle.
