“Lovely location an good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Fantastic view over the harbor of Byblos. The calamaris and the gambas are very good and fresh.
The price is very reasonable. There is also a little museum in the front of the restaurant, worth while to visit.

“Lovely location, food ordinary”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

The location of Pepe's is great but the food is somewhat ordinary. Having said that, it's not ridiculously expensive so you could do worse. The fact that it's often empty when other places are full suggests it's lost its reputation with Lebanese people. Average.

“Lovely dinner looking over the harbour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012

We had a fabulous meal- the staff were lovely, coo-ed over our (little, badly pronounced) arabic and really looked after us. The wine was great, the food was perfectly cooked, and the people watching was great. Really enjoyed it- the photos of famous diners are always entertaining, and it's certainly the only restaurant I've ever eaten in with its own Unesco listed archeological museum....

“Large fresh fish selection and harbourside seating/view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2012

Covered patio above the sheltered harbour, with view of tour boats entering and leaving. Quiet unless docked boat operators decide to test their engines while moored. No sun since completely covered seating, but small tree-side patio available near main entrance. Small bar/lounge area. Inside seating with stone cave atmosphere featuring long colorful benches and walls full of black & white celebrity photos. ashtrays were everywhere, so you could become the victim of secondhand smoke without warning.
Meat (Kafta and Kebbe) and fresh fish dominated the menu (plus grilled chicken). Fish menu on inside wall above catches on ice. Prices ranged from $10-90 USD. 5-6 types included Dorado, Red Snapper, Shrimps, and Calimari. French fries were standard and a bit soggy. Hommos and fresh flat bread was tasty.
On a slow Saturday afternoon, service was attentive and Almaza beers were readily available. Overall, seemed like a comfortable place. Easy walk to castle. About a 45 minute drive to Beirut on a non-work day.

“Well-cooked fish spoilt by extremely poor service and attitude!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2012

Having arrived in Byblos from the mountains we were hungry and fancied a good meal. Chez Pepe looked like the place and certain has both the picturesque view over the harbour and an excellent reputation. Unfortunately, from the off it proved to be very disappointing experience and one which left a sour taste in the mouth when the price (not cheap) is taken into account. After 45 minutes were were still waiting for starters when other tables who had arrived after us were already groaning with mains! When we asked we were basically told that it was our fault for ordering fish which needed to be grilled. Our starters were completely forgotten. Eventually after I actually complained (something I have only ever done in a restaurant once before) the starters arrived along with our mains. The starters were distinctly average. The mains much better; my grilled fished was pretty good to be honest. However, the attitude, not only of the junior waiting staff but also the head waiter was really one of 'sod off, we can't be bothered with you - but don't forget to pay your bill'.
