“Great position in a wonderful area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Great positioning on the banks of the Ewaso River makes this a very pleasant tented lodge, and frequent visits by the local elephants makes for a wonderful experience. I found service to be excellent, as was the food. My tent was very comfortable, with very hot showers with good water pressure. You can charge batteries when the generator is switched on for a few hours in the morning and again at night. There is wireless Internet and cell phone signal. Be aware though that most guests arrive in tour operator game drive vehicles so if you arrive without a vehicle you will pay extra for game drives. Drinks are also charged separately.

Room Tip: Ask for an elevated tent, rather than one of those on the ground.

We were here for one night to complete our 3 nights vacation in samburu reserve. The property is so beautifully done.
The rooms are extremely spacious, beds are huge and the bathrooms have instant hot water unlike many establishments in remote areas.
Spending a moment on the couch next to the river enjoying the breeze is very relaxing but the sun can get quite hot around midday so you have to make sure you are under a shade.
We had beef lasagne for dinner and was lovely. Every room has a small plunge pool next to it where you can have a drink as you relax in the water.
I would recommend it to everyone but make sure you spend atleast two nights for the full experience

The experience of landing at a small airstrip in a remote part of Kenya where one is met by a driver guide, fully replete in his tribal clothing, but holding his mobile phone only adds to the excitement of the adventure.

Anthony was our guide and he was to be a major factor in ensuring that our two days in Samburu would be successful. His knowledge was encyclopaedic and his capacity to spot animals was uncanny. After a leisurely drive to the Elephant Bedroom Camp during which we saw a very large number of animals covering the spectrum from the large (elephant) to the small (Dik Dik). Of particular interest to us was the sight of the endangered Grévy's zebra and the Gerenuk, which stands on its hing legs to get to the plants that it likes to eat.

The accommodation was first class and very private. The food quality was excellent. Service was very friendly.

The only issue that one had to manage was to prevent the monkeys from stealing anything not locked away. Apparently they have developed a skill at unzipping tents, so there was a need to lock the zips. This did not prevent them swooping in and removing bread rolls from the dining tables.

Having elephants wandering through the camp or parading along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River is just amazing, particularly to city dwellers.

Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by the Masai and served a cool beverage. Beautiful lodge right on the river, with individual tents on raised platforms. Right out of a Ernest Hemingway novel! Good food, but uncomfortably hard pillows. When away, had to zip up tent, and lock zipper as monkeys knew how to work it. Could hear the elephants rumbling around the tents at night! Samburu Reserve is by far one of the best places to see wildlife, and the hilly terrain is colorful and bushy. Lots of elephants, the most beautiful leopard imaginable, and many rare animals. Loved this place!

Room Tip: Get a tent as close to the lodge as possible. When darkness falls, the Masai escort you back and fo...

Elephant Bedroom is brilliant, simply brilliant.

The tented rooms are just perfect, excellently furnished and equipped, the small Jacuzzi on the deck area is a god send in the hotter parts of the day.

We used the stay there to unwind and not as many do, a jumping off point for Safari's we found that sitting on your deck watching the river go by, many of the animals come by sooner or later.

A worthy trip is the Safari Walk, this starts at about 0630 and last about two hours, during which your armed guides who you all the things you'll normally whizz by in a safari truck. Such as the smaller animals, birds and insects. Its nice also to be able to enjoy the sounds of the reserve without the backing track of a 4x4's diesel engine.

The food is truly excellent, but be aware you eat outside on the main decking area, and good Mozi repellent is required if like me they see you as a tasty snack.

to summarise the Elephant Bedroom is fantastic, the animals come to you, which can be a little alarming at 3am as an elephant is using your tent as a scratching post.

Room Tip: All the rooms (12) appear to be roughly the same.

We stayed here back in June and had a lovely weekend. The camp is in a beautiful setting with gorgeous views. The luxurious tents are gorgeous and right in the elephants pathway so a near by encounter is virtually guaranteed.
Because of the camps position on the river bend it can get very cold and windy there and the noise in the tent at night was incredible - it sounded like it was going to fall down. This also spoilt our meal times as the food gets cold so quickly being outside and tables and chairs were being blown over. The hottub on your private verandah is a nice touch but again not one that we could use due to the weather.

A great experience. Elephant Bedroom Camp has that touch where they go the extra mile to make sure you're enjoying yourself. The food is excellent - particularly given the relative isolation of Samburu - and the guides are very knowledgeable (and versed in proper tracking of wildlife). The guides also have a great network in the park, so if something rare is spotted (ie leopards), they'll know straight away. Compared to the disinterested, solitary guides we had at Mara Timbo in the Maasai Mara, this was a huge difference.

Wonderful location and atmosphere. And compared to the Mara, which is a over-touristed rip-off, Samburu is very well priced. Highly recommended.
