“Scenic lodge, excellent food, good service”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

We stayed at the Samburu Game Lodge 2 nights as part of a small group safari in February 2013. Our cabin (#69) faced directly out onto the Ewaso Nyiro River and afforded scenic views of the landscape and also some wildlife (crocodiles, monkeys, lizards, birds and a genet - small wild cat - within the lodge grounds). The lodge was the base for our exploring the extensive wildlife in Samburu National Park via early morning and early evening game drives. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Food generally good, but the beef and lamb were tough. The lodge grounds are beautifully landscaped, and the swimming pool is a wonderful place to relax during the heat of the day. I highly recommend the optional visit to a Samburu native village that my wife and I found most enjoyable and instructive.

Room Tip: We liked our room, #69, because it was located directly above the river bank. It was a bit farther...

Stayed here as part of a Safari tour via Kuoni,(who are an excellent company for long haul tours). It was as the title suggests a wonderful experience. The lodge itself is really nice and comfortable and the staff were friendly and food was alway excellent, even the most welcome breakfasts at 5:30 in the morning before the first drive of the day began.

The national park is a quite a beautiful place teeming with all sorts of wildlife. One of the best best moments I've experienced came when one morning I looked out of my lodge window to see a herd of Elephants bathing in the river which was only about 200 yards from my lodge, simply breathtaking. In the evening we would all relax with a drink watching the crocodiles in the river and the fabulously coloured birds in the trees. All in all an absolutely fabulous experience one I would recommend to anyone.

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights and we had a wonderful time. Staff so friendly and kind the kitchen staff even putting on a happy birthday sing song and cake to celebrate the event. Beautiful location along the river and a lovely cool place to stay during the heat of the day. Our bird trip to see those living in the hotel garden was amazing - so many and such an interesting talk. The beautiful and huge owl sitting sleepily up in the tree. The trips out on safari were so exciting and interesting and the views breath taking especially in the dusk and the large herds of elephants were absolutely wonderful to see. If anyone likes birds, this is a good place to go to see them.

Room Tip: Ours was good but I think they all are. We had a little room overlooking the river (crocodiles in t...

We stayed here at the beginning of the year for the fifth time and the reason we keep going back is the lovely friendly atmosphere, the attention to detail and of course the wonderful location, right on the bank of the river. We were so lucky this year that the rains had come and all the small family groups of elephants had come together to form a herd of elephants which numbered between 100 and 200. This herd would come down to the river every morning, bath, drink and then walk across to the opposite bank, a routine that was repeated every late afternoon. And, all this can be watched from the comfort of the "round house". Thank you to all the staff for making our visit unforgettable once again.

It is a great lodge, staff is friendly with people but not with crocodiles. It is located in a very quiet place and overlooking Ewaso river. You may able to see elephants on the other side of the river. They have a good selection of drinks and food.

I stayed here for 5 nights and loved every minute of our stay. The grounds are mature and attract plentiful wildlife and the setting on the river cannot be beat by other the other newer lodges. The staff is by far the best I have come across during my travels in Kenya. I felt so appreciated and welcomed by all. The daily Samburu dancers are quite a deal at only 500 Ksh to watch for almost 30 minutes. Much work is going on to recover from floods of 2010 but the construction did not hinder our stay at all

We stayed here for two nights, and the lodge is simply great. The rooms themselves are luxurious, the service and food are good and the area is really beautiful overlooking the river.

We slept well and had a generally very good time here, I could easily have stayed longer.

The game drives in the area were very interesting and we saw a lot of animals, including a leopard during our last game drive.
