“One of our favorite tent camps!”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

We immensely enjoyed our 3-night stay at this lovely tent camp located within a canopy of large, shade trees along a wild and muddy river. Our tent was large and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom and nice porch for sitting and relaxation in the mornings and evenings before and after our safaris. Coffee was brought to the tent in the morning and hot water bottles for the bed in the evening which added to the charm of the place. The camp had a really nice pool which in the dry and arid area seemed pretty decadent but with the really warm to hot days we found it to be a “guilty pleasure.” We really enjoyed the relaxed and not-to-manicured grounds and looked forward to coming back after our long days’ of safaris. The dining area was pleasant, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food varied, fresh, very good. A local was on hand to toss rocks at the fast and well-trained monkeys who would occasionally snatch a piece of bread or other morsel of food from an unsuspecting diner. The surrounding area proved to be some of the best in terms of viewing wildlife and the beautiful landscapes. Of our three weeks (including 6 different accommodations) touring the national parks and reserves in Kenya this tent camp was high on our list and I would certainly return to it again.

Our group of six stayed for two nights at Larsens Camp. The food was tasty and plentiful, the staff agreeable and well-appointed accommodations, in the style of what I imagine would have been elegant 'old Africa'. We saw a wealth of animals in the Samburu National Reserve, among them the beautiful and feisty Grevy's Zebra, our first lioness with her cubs, a leopard lazing sleepily in a tree, Oryx, Gerenuk, herds of elephants and many beautifully colored birds of all sizes. The river that ran by the camp gave us the opportunity to see a few Nile Crocodiles. All in all, our group unanimously agreed it was the best accomodation so far in our adventure.

We had 2 nights at Larsens Camp and enjoyed our stay. The tents were very comfortable with plenty of room and excellent bathroom facilities. There was a lot of rain when we were there but the tent did not feel cold or damp. There was plenty of choice on the menus and the food & service in the restaurant was good. We personally enjoyed having the monkies scampering around the camp. We had good viewing although when we saw the lioness and cheetah there were a lot of vehicles around but most of the time this was not a problem. We had a lovely stay.

We absolutely loved Larsens Camp! The river location and grounds were gorgeous and relaxing, the facilities and rooms were charming as well as practical, the service was outstanding. We really enjoyed the beautiful pool in the afternoons. One felt very welcome. The animal and bird life of the camp were certainly entertaining, from the Hadida ibis to the vervet monkeys and the baboons. The ambiance seemed to me to reflect authentic Kenya.

We stayed at Larsens for two enjoyable nights. The tents were spacious and nicely furnished. The camp has a nice location on a river, but there could be some improvement with respect to landscaping.

The food was very good, with plenty of variety. However, the dinning area was a little spartan.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating and our driver/guide (Samson) was excellent.

We stayed two nights at Larsen's Camp on a two week photo safari. The tents are nice with good views of the river. While we were there, the winds each night were terrible which causes the tents to "rattle" so we didn't sleep much. They have blow dryers in the room which most tent camps do not. The tents do not have the ability to lock, so we carried our cameras, etc., in backpacks when we went to meals, which was cumbersome. The front desk has a small community safe. Food was adequate, but not great but the service was outstanding. Beware if you find monkeys and baboons to be pests as the property is covered up with them and the monkeys love to visit the decks on the back of the tents begging for food. Pesky and dirty.

We did not enjoy our experience at this camp. We only stayed one night and that was long enough. At first the staff were polite and friendly and then due to unforseen circumstances in our travel they became distant and would not even make eye contact. They disconnected us from the wifi when they found we were using it to sort out our travel hiccup. Not very professional of them, luckily no other guests where in the camp. The camp is quite large so if you are looking for a more intimate setting this is not the place. The rooms are nicely appointed, that is about the only good thing I can comment on.
