Samburu Simba Lodge
Reviewed January 8, 2014

I was lucky enough To stay in this lodge in November 2013 for 2 nights, and it was wonderful, the staff are very polite and accommodating to all you needs/requirements.
The rooms are very clean spacious and are wooden outside and very modern inside, we had a balcony that over looked the reserve which was amazing.
Very peaceful surroundings great night sleep and a wonderful shower/bathroom.
Outside your room you are met by monkey's, baboons and all sorts of weird and wonderful animals they come close but do not make contact so no need to be alarmed in any way.

The food is delicious very well presented and a good variety, the restaraunt overlooks the reserve so whilst eating we saw crocodiles and a hyena and on the last day a Hurd of elephants.

The is a lovely pool and well maintained that overlooks the reserve as well so you can peacefully rest against the wall in the pool and watch the animals.

The safari is very enjoyable lots to see you can use your own car if you have one and it works out cheaper but safety is not 100% when in your own vehicle, I was contempt with having two guides who knew where to go and could show us the best they had to offer.

Overall fantastic experience and well worth a stay.

Room Tip: Overlooking the reserve is amazing

This place has a great location overlooking a water hole that attracts lots of animals. The bar, dining room as well as rooms have this view. The rooms are adequately spacious and fitted out (including in-room safe) but have confusing 2-way light switches and no wi-fi. The staff are friendly and food is average to good.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a fridge and some have coffee facilities so ask when booking.

The Samburu Simba Lodge is an excellent base from which to explore the Samburu Game Reserve. The bedrooms and bathrooms are excellent in every respect and the staff are second to none in terms of their friendliness and efficiency. The food is all served buffet style but is of a good quality and regularly restocked and so it is always fresh. I would definitely return and urge others to try this lodge out. The only down side was there wasn't an abundance of game in the park but that wasn't the lodge's fault!

Room Tip: All the rooms have excellent views but those on the first floor I guess are better.

Me and a group of friends stayed here at the beginning of Aug 13, the rooms are brand new and really lovely apart from no bath and no TV, the pool and bar area was lovely and the pool/bar man was brilliant, he really looked after us.

The only bad thing about Simba is the food OMG it's rubbish if I am honest nothing like the other lodges and it has to be the worst, it's a shame but its the truth, no great selection and its pitiful the way it's displayed, I am not going to go into great detail but the food let the lodge down from getting 5 stars. 15 group members and we all said the food wasn't good at all.

Apart from the food the lodge is beautiful and the staff are great, thank you.

Well, where do I begin!
What a fantastic start to an amazing holiday. If you have booked a stay at this lodge, you are in for a real treat. The fantastic view overlooking the African plains, and the infinity pool offering the same view.
The rooms are spotless as is the whole complex. The service Was also excellent.

The hotel is brand new and as such everythinng is in great shape. No TVs in room, but that is the standard at most lodges. Staff is very attentive and is well situated in the park. The scenery in Sambury is amazing. It was pretty empty when we were ther though! Food is standard buffet international.

Overall this was a great location/lodge.

Pros:

1. Great staff! Went out of their way to accommodate and greet everyone. One of the chefs noticed I wasn't eating too much so I told him my stomach was upset so we made some bland food for me at each meal.

2. Watering hole behind the bar area was great game viewing.

3. Rooms were large and clean.

4. Pool was GREAT! David the maintenance man made sure to clean it each time he saw us come back from a drive so that by the time we got to the pool it was clean and ready for us and stocked w/ Towels.

Cons:

1. Well this isn't really a con but beware of the Baboons. We had them on the stairs to the rooms, in the pool area and by the bar.

2. They only take Kenya Shillings they will not take US $

3. No Internet

4. Electricity did go off at night so the rooms did get stuffy/warm (since you could not open windows)

Room Tip: Ask to be near the pool....
