Driftwood Beach Club
Ranked #2 of 28 Hotels in Malindi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 28, 2014

Just returned home from our Kenya holidays and thankfully we chose Driftwood as our beach location and during the 6 nights we were there we all had a fantastic time. We were of course off season but that did not dampen the great time we had. Tourists numbers are down because of the recent troubles but we had no issue in Kenya at all. So what did I really think of Driftwood. On arrival to Malindi we were collected from the Airport by large taxi and taken to Driftwood. I was travelling with my mum, brother and daughter. We all had our own rooms which were like little mini villas, they are quite basic but all you need really and the AC was a lifesaver. We arrived on a Friday and that seems to be the night of entertainment. There was a lady singing and we drank and laughed all night. The bar was lovely with a welcoming feeling. The pool area was great with wooden loungers with nice blue cushions and blue pool towels. The pool itself it a great size and suitable for all ages. The hospitality shown by Roger was second to none and the staff were all amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble. I have to give a special mention to the chef for his lobster thermidor, I have never seen so much lobster on one plate and taste so devine. I tried most things on the menu and everything was gorgeous, so good we didn't bother to go elsewhere. The staff even took some lessons from me on how to make the best Tia Maria coffee!! In short, we had the best most relaxing time ever in the company of some of Kenya's finest people and I would say to anyone don't hesitate in booking DW for your Malindi experience. Driftwood attitude.........Hakuna matata.

I can barely express how amazing this hidden gem in Malindi is. Everyone who works there has a wonderfully happy smile and are utterly charming, always! The food is delicious and the bar a blissful place to wind down after a day in the bustle of Malindi or on the white sandy beach, or indeed alongside the swimming pool. We were treated to a tour of Malindi town (fascinating) in the complimentary tuktuk and found some excellent shops along the way. The remainder of the time we spent in quiet and satisfied paradise beside the pool of our cottage, Manda. Roger, our charming and attentive host offered great advice on local places to visit, nothing was too much trouble. If you stay in only one perfect African retreat make it this place.

We returned home yesterday from Driftwood Beach Club and had a great time. The staff were friendly, the food was delicious, the rooms, although basic have absolutely everything you need. The overall hotel facilities are very good...they even have air-conditioned guest loos!! We had lunch every day in various different restaurants in Malindi and Watamu and honestly felt that the Driftwood served the best food we had in the area. Thank you Roger and team...a great effort and yet you make it look easy!

Just completed a week long medical mission in Malindi, where our group of 18 stayed at the Driftwood. Cannot compliment the staff enough for making our time there pleasant. Open air dining and bar area were wonderful ways to relax in the evening. WiFi allowed us to stay in touch with families at home. Rooms clean and comfortable, food and service were excellent, and Roger, YoYo, and all the staff were so warm and welcoming. Sunrise views on the Indian Ocean were truly spectacular. Hopefully next trip we'll have more time to spend enjoying this wonderful property...

You will not find a better place in Malindi to enjoy excellent food with good wine and splendid views of the Indian Ocean. Also excellent value, try it, you will not be disappointed. Usually populated by a few of the ex colonial types but they can be tolerated.

Beyond the perfect location, we experienced that the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The Hotel is no too big, it´s easy to feel welcome and find a quiet corner to relax!
The rooms are fairly basic but spatial, and right on the beach.

The restaurant serve a good variety of food, all i all a very nice little Hotel you want to come back to!
