Stayed here with my husband and three teenage children for 7 nights over New Year, booked through www.imagineafrica.co.uk who have vast experience of Kenya and offered excellent advice. The hotel is beautiful, rooms spacious and tastefully furnished, swimming pools warm and inviting and main areas very classy and luxurious. Situated right on Silversands beach in Malindi with ample sun loungers and huge sofa beds there is plenty of space to relax in peace. We stayed in two superior rooms in the same banda which shared a veranda where we enjoyed breakfast every day. Three bandas (ie six rooms) shared the swimming pool in our area.

Food was rather variable, buffet style lunches were slightly repetetive and evening meals offered little choice other than a meat or fish option for main course. However it was certainly always plentiful and the Kenyan staff were friendly and efficient.

The resort is Italian owned and run and we did not imagine this would be a problem even though we were the only British guests staying during our visit. However the other guests and management (we struggled to differentiate between them) all seemed to know each other and we did feel rather like univited guests at a private party.

Security is NOT an issue here at all so please dont let that put you off visiting the Kenyan coast. We encountered nothing but welcome and friendliness wherever we went and never once had a moment's concern for our safety.

I wouldn't recommend taking the hotel's "tours" which are horrendously overpriced and not very good. Get a taxi and tell the driver where you want to go and what you want to do and he will sort it out for a fraction of the price!

Room Tip: superior rooms are larger, have better bathrooms and are nearer the beach

Has to be the best hotel I have visited in Malindi. No other hotel comes anywhere near. From the senior management to all the staff are simply amazing. They went out of their way to prepare pure vegetarian food for us.. The rooms are a class of its own. Basically any request was dealt with hapilly. Just the perfect place to go and unwind.. Definitely going back very soon.

I stayed at the Kilili in February and really appreciated the secure and secluded ambiance. Our room was great, very large with expansive balcony. Staff was accommodating and gave us exactly the room type requested. You find several pools on property and a spa. We very much enjoyed the food - mostly italian as the hotel is owned by Italians - having had trouble with food at other Kenyan resorts, it was reassuring to be able to eat what we wanted with being afraid to be sick. Security is present and helpful. The decor is very stylish and arabic with unique cachet. The only negative points are not about the hotel but rather about the situation in Malindi. Coming from America, we are not used to beach boys and locals following you continuously on the beach to sell you things or propose services. Very annoying although the Italian guests didn't seem to mind as much as us. I would not have gone to the town of Malindi on my own as it seemed not so safe but the hotel arranged for a taxi to take us around and guide us.

The hotel had entertainment at night but we just retrieved to our large room.

Room Tip: Rooms near spa are very quiet.

Best food I've tasted in Africa, beautiful spa and wonderful staff and surrondings!
Pilipili beds on your private outside area, in the sitting room and by the beach. Most relaxed holiday ever. I am in love with Pilipili beds!

One week at Kilili in the "low season" (end April) turned out to be blessed with "high season weather". All the way from management to staff the service and attitude are first rate. The food is good, the resort is picturesque and clean. The spa is amongst the best. We'll be back at the first possible opportunity! Greetings from Uganda/Norway.
