Porini Amboseli Camp
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 11, 2014 via mobile

When we drove to the camp through rather arid terrain we were apprehensive initially but these were put to rest quickly by the sheer variety of wild life we encountered and the exclusivity we had to the conservancy as Porini Amboseli guests. The camps were spacious with all amenities. Quality of service was high class. The walking trip in the conservancy was memorable with the guides having incredible knowledge. Another highlight was the visit to the Maasai village. The place grew on us as time passed and we wished we we had booked for a few days more.

Steve from Gamewatchers was very good at responding quickly to any requests and assuring us regarding personal safety and at no time did we feel insecure. Wilson and Julius were great guide and driver. We saw a very cute elephant calf playing in the mud, the conservancy was great, heaps of animals and the visit to the Masai village very educational. Porini do things really well, we had a great time. Thanks heaps.

We stayed here in January 2014. What a great time! We were pretty much the only people there, but the safari experience was fantastic. Wilson, our guide, was great - very knowledgeable. The long day going to the base of Kilimanjaro was great - we got the iconic photos of the elephants crossing in front of the mountain. My daughter got sick and the staff were so helpful. Would definitely recommend it over the busy lodges we stayed in Tanzania.

Our whole experience with Porini was brilliant. Well thought out with excellent viewings, freedom to do what we wanted under the expert guidance with the wonderful staff. The food and accommodation were excellent. The fact the camps cater for small numbers ensured personalised service, nothing was ever a trouble and the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable.
We are planning on going again and taking the remainder of our family so they can witness for themselves this wonderful country and it's beautiful people and of course the brilliant animals.

I was fortunate to enjoy another special safari experience thanks to Tony and his Porini team. The sight of elephants marching with the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro is truly special, and the conservancy was also rich with varied wildlife to enjoy. Tents and food - as always with Porini - was excellent. Maasai guide Jonah and driver Shadrack were excellent company and very helpful finding the best angle for my snaps. Thoroughly recommended!

Quiet, comfortable, good food, excellent guide and driver (Jonah and Julius). Range of activities, superb opportunities for wildlife sightings. Several hours up close to the elephants of Amboseli National Park - outstanding!!! Probably a good time of year to go to this National Park as other tourists were few and far between.
Only slight downside, this camp is particularly tucked away and enclosed so no views.

Porini Amboseli Camp (PAC), our first stop in a whirlwind 7-day safari, delivered the best service I’ve ever experienced. In fact, I hesitate to call it ‘service’ as it felt more like camaraderie. Immediately after our visit to a very welcoming Maasai village, it rained for a solid 6 hours. We didn't really mind as it gave us an opportunity to recover from the long journey to Kenya. The next day, at the crack of dawn, we were on our way to Amboseli National Park with not one, but two Land Rovers of Maasai warriors in tow. When we saw the muddy roads, we understood why we needed back-up. What’s normally a quick drive turned into a 5 hour-long adventure. At one point we counted 17 people pushing our vehicle along – all with smiles on their faces. Although they could’ve quite reasonably modified our itinerary, the Maasai team, led by Julius and Dennis, remained 100% committed to the challenge.

The best part of the day - heck, of the trip - was not seeing the elephants on the other side (though they were breathtaking!), but rather, the time that we shared with these inspiring young men. Their perseverance was a much-needed reminder that "life is a journey, not a destination". Endless thanks to Tony – you run a tight ship!
