We had a great stay. Unfortunatelly we stayed only for one night and this was a big mistake. We should have stayed at least two to three nights.
I had a short jump into the pool. It was a bit freezing, but very refreshing, before we went to a walking safari to the sundowner.
I just can recommend the lodge and the area.

Satao Elerai is a magic place. Being welcomed by the semi-tame elan, having those views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and experiencing such a variety in activities is hard to top! We took part in impressive game drives in Amboseli national park as well as in the private reserve, visited the local village and enjoyed a sundowner with one of the best views ever! Great camp, friendly staff, gorgeous landscape!

This is a very nice place to stay for 2 nights. The food service was very good and I appreciated the prepared menu selections as opposed to the usual buffet service. Tents were very nice and bedding not too hard. We were lucky to have clear nights and the star gazing was FANTASTIC! The view of a balding Mt. Kili one morning was terrific but said volumes about global climate change--very little snow compared to 8 years ago and this is the beginning of winter!

What an experience was this. Waking up in the morning, opening your tent and looking out at mount Kilimanjaro. We arrived here for a 2 night stay, after our first 2 days in the Masai Mara reserve. We where spoiled in the Masaï Mara tand thought Satao could never improve this experience.

For the game drive this was wright, Amboseli was, probably because of the rains, very quiet and not manny animals came to the reserve. Al other things where however, top off the bill. We where met by Brian, the manager, who told us what we could expect in his camp. The food was great, the people very friendly and the view magnificent.

A place worthwhile coming back

The private reserve between Amboseli and Kilimanjaro is blessed with an abundance of birdlife and some great sightings of the highest peak in Africa. Wonderful staff and wholesome food make this a favorite place to stay.

Room Tip: I'd always choose a tent over a suite personally

We stayed at Satao Elerai Camp for two nights over Easter weekend and really enjoyed our time there. The Camp itself is situated in a fantastic spot for viewing Mt. Kilimanjaro – one of the highlights of the stay. We (our family of two adults and two children) found our tent to be very roomy and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and there was an abundance of hot water (something not always guaranteed at tented camps). The hours electricity was available are reasonable and in-line with practices at other similar camps. Of note, the generator was on promptly at 0530 and 1830hrs as promised, which was appreciated. I felt the furniture, bedding, towels, etc., were of nice quality. I’d suggest a couple of extra hangers in the bathroom area and possibly a chest with drawers in the large bedroom area – it was not a big deal for a couple of nights, but there really wasn’t a place to unpack and put things away.
The restaurant/lounge/reception area is superb. From the reception there’s a little bridge over a pond with fish and weaver bird nests in the trees – the kids loved it. This leads to the lounge/bar area which not only includes a well-stocked bar but also three or four seating areas with table games and books to keep you occupied. There’s an upstairs seating area where you can sip your sundowner before dinner and enjoy the amazing view.
The food is good, not gourmet, but no complaints – make sure to get the potatoes at breakfast. It’s a potato rosti – yum. There is a vegetarian offering at every meal. No kid’s menu per se, but always something that kids will eat.
Service was good. Some in our party did not care for a particular waiter, but all in all, I found the service to be good. Every request was handled promptly and correctly, which has not always been our experience in Kenya, even at some top of the line places. Julius always had the answer for us!
The pool area is small, but the setting is really nice, with Kilimanjaro in the background. It would be nice to have a table or two by the pool as well as towels available so you don’t have to bring them from your room.
We self-drove in Amboseli, so no review of the guides.
All in all, a big thumbs up for a relaxing weekend away – the view of Kilimanjaro can’t be beat and made it well worth the trip.

Room Tip: Tent 12 is the nearest to the staff quarters and generator - it was nice to only have neighbors on o...

I stayed with a group of friends in October 2012.
On arrival we were met by some fantastic staff and were immediately made to feel very welcome.
I guess my trouble started as i went in with higher expectations than i should of...i had received some very well done glossy marketing material that just didn't match up at all with what i saw...
Everything looked slightly warn, old and in need of a swift refurb in order to get it up to the standard i was expecting.
The sad thing is if i hadnt seen any photos, or done any research i think i would have been very happy.
The staff as mentioned were great.
The food was VERY good.
The drinks always cold.
The Game was never far away.
The tents....have seen better days....
The bathrooms although HUGE were sparse...and the water pressure was awful.
In each room is a bottle of wine and two glasses...but next to it was a sign telling you how much it was...as professional in the tourism industry this is SUCH a no no...
If it wasn't free it shouldn't have been displayed like it was...
All in all, is was an average stay which had the potential to be great..

Thanks for your response on your recent stay at Satao Elerai.

I am sad to hear that a couple of areas did not meet your expectations. You will be happy to hear that we did extensive refurbishment in May and June this year and so hopefully the areas you felt were below expectation have been dealt with.

In regards to the wine in the room being charged to your account I am sorry that this upset you. Having a minibar or drinks of any sort in a room available to clients against charge is done in most hotels across the world and so not sure why you view this as a no no… Additionally many clients like to sit on their terrace and have a glass of red wine as they watch Mt Kilimanjaro and so the red wine we offer in the room is clearly marked with the name of wine, short description and a price, so there is no confusion and it is clear that it is provided against charge.

We hope to be able to have you back at Satao Elerai in the future and to hopefully meet all your expectations next time.
