“Beautiful Location”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

This is a hotel - not a camp so to speak - but it's smack in the bush, Mount Kilimanjaro is in full view and the rooms are half tents and half concrete so the camp feeling is certainly there. That said, It was a really large room so a walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night was a long long way off. The food was good but not very imaginative so the same options were on offer every day. The pool has a unique design and is large enough to guarantee a leisurely swim or brisk laps. Th best thing about this hotel must be the staff; especially, Esther (Guest Relations) always had a warm smile, a moment to chat and always ready to help in every way. They also have a great live band who were cheerful, turned out music from every part of the globe and had everyone on their feet in no time. An observation deck in the middle of the restaurant guaranteed a good view of the surrounding park and Kilimanjaro but the extreme lighting contrast meant disappointing photos - if you want to be in them with the mountain as a back drop.

Down side: the rooms are individually constructed and so widely spaced, it felt lonely and scary sometimes (although there were armed guards on the premises). The music was usually very loud and in all that open space travels very far; one wonders if all that noise is good for the wild animals.

Room Tip: The mosquitoes will get into the tent somehow so use the insecticide provided if you do not wish to...

When we were told we would stay in a tent!! I realy did'nt know what to expect. The only way to explain it is sheer luxuay. The decor in the rooms is fabulous. With great views of Kilimanjaro. The food was well presented and delicious. The staff were friendley and attended to all our needs. It was a little difficult when the electric was switched off, but that is part of the safari. We would love to stay again and have time to use the pool.

Room Tip: Path a little uneven whan power off

We have enjoyed staying at Kilima a couple of times. It is a true "safari" experience in the bush. The tents are fabulous. The view is amazing with Mt. Kilimanjaro in the near distance. The pool was very unique and large. Fun for the kids. And, as always, the food was wonderful! Just next to the Amboseli game park, home to many elephants.

If I die and go to heaven, I hope it will be like our tent (no. 16) at Kilima. I was already blown away when I saw photos online on the lodge's website, and I can only say that it was even better in real life. The furniture and decor were simply so stylish, amazing four-poster beds, beautiful bathroom... I'd be thrilled if my apartment looked like this at home!! It was spotlessly clean and everything looked brand new. My only problem was that we arrived in a hurry and only spent one night there - so such a short stay did no justice to this place! The pool too was heavenly.

To be 100% honest, I did not find the eating area quite as appealing as the rooms. I would have preferred something along the same theme as the tents. However, food was very nice and I loved the look-out tower. The staff members we met were lovely too. We also had a nice gin& tonic after dinner in the bar which was very pleasant. I was surprised to notice that almost everyone went straight to their rooms after dinner - although maybe like me they were simply admiring the lovely accommodation!

I left with a heavy heart in the morning - hoping that I will return soon. We also stayed at Ashnil Aruba and Saltlick, and I can say that Kilima was my absolute favourite. Thank you for an amazing stay!!!

We stayed at KIlima Safari Camp in Amboseli because we wanted a Camp with a good view of Kilimanjaro. We had stayed at its sister camp Fig Tree Camp in 2009.
Our Tent was in a good spot so once the clouds had cleared the view was amazing. We stayed here before flying on to Royal Mara.

Our Tent was large and very clean. I loved the walk in Shower it was so big. The Tent had a Double Bed and a Single Bed in it both of which had Mosquito Nets around them.

There was a desent sized swimming pool but sadly it had alot of twigs and leaves in it so we decided not to get in it, but i must add they were cleaning it.

The food was good, always something to eat, and always hot. The waiter service was good, plates cleared away and always a friendly smile.

Our Safaris were excellent but sadly we didnt see the big 5 here.

Theres a Watch Tower in the Camp and well worth getting to the top for the views.

Wifi wasnt very good, but i was told the router was being used in the conference room. When the router came back i think it was a case of it was ok when it was switched on.

We did experience a problem here which i wont go into but Peter the manager was excellent and looked after us very well indeed. So once again Peter Mugi thank you for getting to the bottom of the problem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good views of Kilimanjaro

The rooms are fantastic, almost an arabian theme. Very large bathrooms with double sinks, dressing table and separate shower room and toilet room. The beds are large and come with mosquito nets. The room is very clean and the tent section is definitely waterproof - we had a heavy downpour and all stayed very dry inside! Electricity charging points are provided and the shower is hot. There is a viewing tower in the main restaurant where you can see for miles and get shots of Kilimanjaro. The mountain is invisible when the clouds are out and we only managed to catch a glimpse of it for an hour or so. The restaurant serves good food and has masaai dancers in the evening. It's also possible to arrange a visit to a local masaai village a few minutes walk away - just ask at reception. The staff were really friendly and walked us to and from the rooms in the evening and early morning. The pathways are lit but it's nice to have someone with a flashlight who knows where they are going. The swimming pool is large and clean and has sun loungers within the pool itself as well as the standard sun loungers surrounding it. I'd definiely stay again. They also have a massage tent too although we didn't have time for that unfortunately.

This camp is truly wonderful, with beautiful tents (including an excellent bathroom!) and a seating area outside the tent overlooking Mt Kilimanjaro - magical. The food is excellent, as is the service from all of the staff. There is a beautiful pool for relaxing in-between safaris and we had a massage from the masseuse which was lovely. A few reviews comment that electricity is turned off at intervals during the day/night, however this was the same in all of the 3 camps we stayed in during our time in Kenya - that's just the way it is! Overall a great place to stay, would highly recommend.
