InterContinental Almaty Hotel
Ranked #3 of 75 Hotels in Almaty
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 9, 2010

I've stayed at the Intercontinental a number of times over the years (it used to be called the Ankara) and have always found it a very pleasant experience. The staff service is excellent, the rooms are nicely appointed and the breakfast buffet is top-notch. The hotel has a great spa and gym as well.

When I am traveling on business in Almaty this is my preferred hotel. It is a much better choice than the Hyatt, which is tired, even more expensive and suffers from indifferent service.

Open the curtains in the room and stare out at the Himalayan mountains at the end of the road! Breathtaking. The hotel is a standard Intercontinental and although in a former Soviet Republic is a modern well serviced hotel. Food is good, wine choice is excellent ( although mostly local and good quality ), the garden is a peaceful and relaxing place.

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel - it's definitely worth the price. The staff were extremely nice, from the receptionists to the breakfast area waiters. After the first night, I asked for a room change, and the receptionist actually took me to to several rooms to see which one I would prefer! Also, the breakfast buffet is great, the selection is amazing and they even serve red caviar and Japanese breakfast, that includes sushi :)

The location is also good, you can just walk out and you are almost straight in the city center.

I stayed at this hotel several times. It certainly lives up to Intercontinental standards. Rooms are good, food is excellent, the service is very good. The only drawback is that it is highly overpriced, but this is unfortunately a very common feature in Almaty. If you have someone covering your bill, do not hesitate staying here!

We spent three nights in this hotel at the start of a central Asia trip and thought at the time that it had some minor defects. However, at the end of our visit to the region, we looked back with nostalgia to a really good place!

The hotel is located at the S end of the city with great views of the nearby Tien Shan mountains and close to some key buildings, including the President's residence. Security seemed good. There is a soaring atrium, glass lifts and five star amenities . Our room was bland but adequately equipped. Internet service was an expensive $25 per day, a cheeky extra given that a standard room costs $500 +. Phone calls to Europe were $7 per minute. Presumably, the oilmen can afford all this but it's a touch extortionate for a tourist.

The breakfast buffet was excellent by any standard as was dinner in the Bosphorous restauarnt,

Competition is coming (Hyatt) but for now this is probably the best choice in Almaty and 5/5 in context. Recommended to those not on a tight budget.

This hotel is AMAZING!!! Everything is perfect! I've seen a lot of hotels in Russia&CIS and abroad, but Intercontinental hotels are THE BEST!

This hotel in Almaty has several rooms vith a view to Medeo. I didn't want to leave a room!!!

Rooms are big and very cozy, big bathrooms, very cozy beds... I was happy to stay there!
