Stayed at Shymbulak Resort Hotel for 2 nights after hearing good things from people who had been in 2015/2016. We had to book the ‘suite’ as no other rooms left on booking.com so straight away the price we paid was ridiculously high for the quality of the accommodation but, money aside, this ‘hotel’ is in need of a massive upgrade.

The rooms were dated and lacked basic ‘hotel’ facilities i.e. water, iron, bin etc. there was no sign of the place being cleaned as there was dirty pots near our door when we arrived which were still there 2 days later. The breakfast was cold so ended up eating in Paul’s most mornings.

The staff were helpful enough and the taxi service was decent. The location, which is great, is the only thing that saved this from a 1* review.

I’d only consider staying here if you’re in one of the dorms where the costs will match the quality of ‘hotel’ you get.

I went with my friend snowboarding in Kazakhstan and we decided to stay at the Shymbulak Resort Hotel due to it‘s proximity to the ski lift. You basically step out of the hotel and you are in the middle of everything. The employees are very friendly and helpful! The breakfast restaurant is very cozy and the rooms are very comfortable! The hotel has 2 saunas out of which one is a traditional one. It is a bit tricky to get to the place so ot is recommendable to have the hotel arrange the transportation! It is also close to various restaurants & ski rental! You will also have discounted ski lift pass if you stay at the hotel.

It's a three-star hotel constructed during Soviet times and refurbished not so long ago with wood sheathing. The room for two will cost you between $50 and $65, which is reasonable. But the prices at two restaurants are very high. Just a salad cost me $20.

There are seven taxis going from Medeo to Shymbulak. A taxi ride is 3,000 KZT per car, regardless of the number of passengers. There is also a bus, but the waiting time may not be worth it. As of October 25, 2018 the cable car from Medeo to Shymbulak is under maintenance. Cars are not allowed.

People come here to ski and hike. Shymbulak is at the altitude of about 2000 meters. Along the road you can go to the glacier, which is about 1500 meters higher.

This is absolutely a place you must visit and spend the night at. If you're traveling on budget, the best solution is a dorm. Rooms are very cozy, amazing view of the city or the mountains, outdoor heated pool, sauna and breakfast included.
Receptionists are so welcoming and they made me feel like at home with friends.
The location is the best for trekking or just relaxing, away from the crowd of the city.
The breakfast is tasty and overall the facility is superb.
I absolutely recommend this resort to anyone and the price is very low.

This is a superb wooden building right at the base of the chairlift. The location is impossible to beat. The rooms are cosy and well-maintained. Malika at reception is an absolute gem. The business will have to look after her because she has qualities which would succeed almost anywhere. The beds are very comfortable; just what you need after a day on the mountain. The pool is nifty, too.

Room tip: Breakfast is wholesome.
