“Normal hotel”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

I stayed in Kazzhol with a colleague - it was his choice. I found the hotel normal, but nothing else. I must say I don't even remember anything special about the hotel :)).
There is a spa-center or something like that, but we didn't have a chance to check it out that time...

Due to my job I travel to Almaty every month and founded hotel Kazzhol as one who is located nearby my office. In morning I need 10 minutes to walk via sleepy and not cleaned from snow streets. It is quite funny than and make your day nervous. So hotel. In last year I spent more than 40 nights there and staid already in this year more than 10 days. Eveything is fine from the beginning if you enter to the hotel, nice receptionist with friendly staff. Here I putted some my remarks:
- if you book a room as always you will get a room with 2 small beds, you always need to ask for one bad in room,
- for early booking they charge you extra, but no breakfast than and no cleaning for the coming day, even if you asked,
- if you ask by telephone something from reception to make for you, please be sure to call few times for this and to remain about even that it is not guarantee, they will always forget to pick up your laundry, or to bring fresh towels
- minibar is nice and has big choice of drinks, filled up every day for a good price, but they never will wash your glasses after tomatoes juice, they just responsible for minibar :)
- cleaning is nice, but often they do not clean if you leave your room late, also problem for service is changing bad shirts and pillows, I stay 6 nights without change even I have been asking for
bathroom is quit poor and has only limit for you, water pipe is not regulated as well and you should be always lucky during changing of water temperature to not get a really steamed water or ice cold, water in the morning is cold, for getting warm water is better to open pipe for 5 minutes and go to bad again, hot water will start in some times
- breakfast is nice but it is located in small room for such amount of people, for vegetarians or veggy lowers would be quite difficult, restaurant has nice offer of different tasty meals for reasonable prices,
- security in hotel is really active and once they opened my room while i was sleeping because I have got not invited visitor and sign do not disturb was one,
- pick up service from airport is working well, but driver will you every 30 min and will ask if you or need more taxi or when he should pick up you back to hotel again, from airport he picked up also some other person without asking my permit even that I paid all journey alone, during way he explain what bustards are living in your country and how good is his nation
- i stayed there during lash big earthquake, no announcements from hotel staff, no information at all
For price you pay already 5 start hotel price with discount. I would advise to look for new alternatives or for chipper ones.

Dear Mr. Vasilevskyi,

Thank you very much for taking time to do such a detailed review about our Hotel.
First of all let me on behalf of the hotel team apologize for any disturbance you have experienced.
It is unfortunate to read that your experience at our Hotel was not meeting your expectations.
We assure you that all your comments regarding the housekeeping are communicated to the related departments, so we can improve on these aspects. The defects were corrected.
We are glad that you brought the case with the taxi service to our attention. This is taken very seriously and a taxi company is informed about the driver behavior.
It’s correct, according to the hotel rules standard check-in time is 14:00 and early check-in is extra charge.
Furthermore, we are grateful to receive your constructive feedback on restaurant, and we assure you we will take your comments with sincere interest. Our restaurant offers great breakfast with wide selection and high quality food & homemade pastry any taste and wish. So an extend menu for vegetarians or veggy lowers will be available soon.
Kazzhol thank you for your valuable comments and feedback. And we wish to welcome you again in our Hotel.

Best regards,
Natalya Goncharova

Slightly above 3 star level. Location quite good, not too far from city centre and airport. Good value for the price. Nice pool. Sauna is small though. Rooms are good, but be sure you get a room in the new building. They have new and old building and the rooms in old building are smaller, have old furniture and they are not as nice as those in the new building. They only have 2 standard rooms in the new building. The hotel has several indoor smoking ares and you can also smell cigaretes in some of the rooms. Also, sometimes you have to wait a little longer for hot water. Breakfast is simple, but sufficient. Hotel's restaurant offers good food, but the service is not the best, so if you are a bigger group you will probably get your meals one by one. If this case it is probably better to go somewhere else for dinner. Other than that, it was a decent stay.

As Almaty becomes crazily expensive, this is a decent hotel, in a quiet road, with all you need, including decent food. Not fancy but good value, and you can walk to Gogol street (try the Bolognese restaurant). Rooms are OK and clean. Can be cold in winter. I stayed twice.

Room Tip: Avoid if you can rooms close to stairs/lift (noise)

I was booked in to this for a conference. If the organisers throught this place was going to impress, they were sadly mistaken. The hotel is old, the rooms very tired (although, to be fair huge!), the bathroom in particular needed work. The food was also pretty low quality for the price you pay here. This was my first visit to Almaty, so i don't have much to compare it to, but there must be better options than this!

Room 617 is quite small, but how many hours a day do you actually spend awake in a hotel room. There is a mini bar and a safe (read the instructions carefully and you may need a torch/flashlight) but no tea/coffee making facilities nor an iron/ironing board. The bed was a little soft but they offer a pillow menu (orthopedic, goose down, visco-elastic, orthopedic hypo allergenic, and feather down) so you can chose your favorite by calling reception. The electricity is 220 volts and if memory serves me correctly, it is like Europe's.

There are minimal amentities in the bathroom as well; however, a hair dryer is provided. There is sufficient lighting in the room though the bathroom is a little dark. My drain in the shower was slow, but it didn't run over.

The breakfast buffet was more than adequate with a wide variety of items offered; there was very little fruit and the coffee was Nescafe. The buffet is served from 7 a.m.to 10 a.m. (11 a.m.on weekends). The lobby bar boasts 24-hour service but it was dark when I arrived at 1 a.m.

There is a business center which is open 24 hours a day and is staffed during the normal business time. It is free of charge as is the wi-fi in all the rooms. A new passcode is required for every day so expect that as well.

Everyone on staff I encountered spoke English though signs everywhere I went were in Russian and Kazakh. The hotel didn't have any business cards so if you go exploring, you might want a street map (available at the front desk) or the name, address, and phone number written in one of these languages just in case.

The health club/spa had a wonderful indoor pool and two-person sauna. In addition, they had a small weight room for exercise buffs. An attendant is on duty when it is open; the placard says from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Nice hotel but shower plumbing needed work but the room was clean. Bed was average. View from window of mountains was great. Service was OK but needed improvement. Breakfast was average. Shopping location is walking distance from hotel.

Room Tip: Good value and convenient location.
