If Faulty Towers was real and based in Kz, it would be this hotel.
I bet in the 70’s when built, it was a state of the art hotel and full of mod cons. Now it it tired, tatty and staffed by those that don’t care.
The King suite is careworn, dirty and as remarkable as the cigarette burn in the jacuzzi bathtub that throws out copious amounts of hair and dirt not belonging to current occupants. I have short blonde hair - the hair in the tub definitely isn’t mine but fortunately, the two complaints I’ve made to reception now have been ignored.
Luckily they give you the obligatory disposable slippers to keep feet clean in - honestly much needed due to filthy carpeting throughout.
Breakfast chaos, restaurant food poor but okay location. Electrical problems but apparently we imagined those too.
There’s a Novotel over the way and the Dostyk (usual stay and awesome) just down the road. Stay there, not here. Stay home, not here. Hell, buy a tent, not here.
Just because reception has been modernized, don’t let it fool you. You can put the proverbial lipstick on the pig but it’s still bacon.
I’m going to bleach my feet when I get home.

From ancient times...renewed old style hotel. Kind personnel, position near many restaurants and pubs, clean room even if not too big to be called "Queen Suite". 25th floor right under the Karaoke Bar, impossible to sleep well. Breakfast every day the same, rich but cheap. On checkout was missing electrical power, and without emergency generators we had 25 floor by stairs...with luggage not so pleasant!

Room tip: Avoid 24th and 25th floor, under Karaoke Bar, singing every day all night long!!!

Stayed here several times in the best and worst rooms. This time the change was impressive.
1. Upgraded lobby furniture
2. Upgraded breakfast room furniture
3. Upgraded linguistic skills not only at Reception but everywhere, including the lobby coffee shop, the 26th floor; even the cleaning lady had some clear key words. This is a hugely important issue because not only does it make a foreigner's life more comfortable, it subtly changes the hotel's general aura.
4. The breakfast was always above average but it's now gone up two gears. Excellent range of fruits, nuts, salads, bakery selections, freshly cooked hot food to order and even (for a small surcharge) freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juices.
5. The room was spotless and properly cleaned daily. (True, towels are a bit thin!)
6. Ever been in a hotel with free spa facilities? Steam anyone? Sauna? That's got to be a serious drawcard.
7. Hotel bar on 26th, with gorgeous vistas, is open basically til the last folk leave. Smoking area.
8. Sure there is still some tidying up to do; slate tiling out front in car area, some worn edges on coffee shop sofas etc.
9. It's true the hotel could be closed for a year and totally refurbished but.. nah, the owners had best just keep up an accelerated programme of toshing up tastefully.
10. Checking out tomorrow after a week of being efficiently served, of room comfort, of cleanliness and all for a really good room rate.

I'll be back!
