“One of the best hotel rooms ever stayed in”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

The place is impeccable. The rooms are huge and appointments, furninshings very classy. The staff is incredible, very attentive and helpful. Room views from 34th floor are outstanding, huge picture window out over the city and the mountains. And the breakfast: outstanding. Woke up and looked forward to getting down and having the food. Nice lobby bar with excellent views, bartenders even know how to make good drinks. The place is pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for and more here.

Very clean. Staff was always friendly. Stayed on the 34th floor and it had outstanding views of the city and the mountains. Watched a big thunder storm move in and it was pretty spectacular from that height.
Within walking distance of many attractions and shopping areas (Sendai Castle, Zuihoden, morning market, sunmall ichibando, etc) as well as Sendai Station.
It is expensive, especially the restaurants on the property. If you want cheaper alcohol and snacks, there is a store on the first floor of the building. Exit the Westin, make an immediate left, then left around the corner of the building and it is right there. It is still pricey but more affordable than the hotel.
Lots and lots of places to eat in the area, although don't expect a lot of english speaking. Some of the menus have pictures that allow you to point to order.
Any 'cons' to the Westin Sendai I have are nitpicky. Paying 1000 yen per 24 hours of wireless internet seemed a little......silly for a hotel in this price range. No real common area/lobby where you can sit and wait for someone or read the paper. Just a small corner with a couch and a few chairs.
Overall a very nice hotel in an excellent location. Would definitely stay there again.

Excellent rooms; all with views (28-36th floor of tallest building in NE Japan). Very comfortable with great beds and bathrooms. Sophisticated decor. Spotlessly clean; very good service. A few irritants - rooms good value but extras (coffee; internet etc) fairly expensive. Well located in Sendai.

Spent a week in Sendai at The Westin. GORGEOUS hotel, immaculate room and bathroom. Excellent facilities. Staff is great, if reserved. Food was very good (but pricey, as this is Japan). Room and restaurants have floor to ceiling windows with epic views of city and mountains. Decor was very sharp - loved this hotel! Easy access to restaurants, nearby shopping, subway and bullet train at Sendai Station, only 5 minute walk.

I live about ten minutes away from this hotel, and it's the only Starwood property for hundreds of kilometers.

It is a very nice hotel though, enough that my wife and I like to come here occasionally to get away. We've stayed here three times, booking a club room each time (no SPG status).

Tonight I'm here on my own, booked into the cheapest room for the last night of a platinum challenge. This is my first SPG stay as a gold, and the hotel upgraded my room to a deluxe (almost a shame, as I was hoping to see the cheapest rooms, but I'm not complaining) and gave me a 4pm checkout without me having to ask.

The good
It's a lovely hotel, great views, still pretty new, very central location, good staff. Breakfast was good the last three times, and the lounge is pleasant and quiet.

The bad
It's expensive. Er, that's about it. Had lunch at the restaurant just after it opened and wasn't impressed (felt like we were paying for the view more than for the food). Parking felt expensive.

Overall
A great hotel, losing out by a whisker to the St. Regis in Osaka in my wife's eyes. I love staying here, and will do so every chance I get.

First of all, let me say this Hotel is not cheap - but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Upon check in we were met with smiles and very helpful and welcoming staff who did their best to speak with us, not all of them have perfect English but enough to get by, and most of them do speak English very well. The Hotel lobby is on the 26th Floor and the Hotel Rooms are above that. Level 27 to 37. The Executive Lounge, Spa and Gym and Restaurant Symphony are also on this floor. We were a party of three, all on the same level and each with a different outlook, there is no bad view as the Hotel stands taller than many buildings around it. The porters will take your bag, but they are tiny Japanese girls so we choose to wheel our own up. I have been in Sendai on business for two weeks. The business trip was very stressful and to do with the Tsunami so very dirty work getting covered in mud on some of these days. It was a joy to come back to the Hotel each evening, an oasis for us. To their credit the staff never raised an eyebrow at our appearance. I had a twin room, two double beds, and my colleagues had kings, I actually preferred the twin as then you had a spare bed to put things on or relax on. The rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, wine glasses and a mini bar, a large plasma TV, and are very comfortable. We used the Executive Lounge on many occasions, the staff were welcoming and we usually got good recommendations for places to eat. The snacks in here were usually salmon, cheese, turkey and some sweet treats. House keeping is great, the room is really cleaned very well. I take my hat off to them.
Life in Sendai is relatively normal after the Tsunami and Earthquake, there are still aftershocks going on, apart from the obvious saving of electricity, meaning sometimes it is hotter inside the buildings than outside you would not know the disaster has been here. We ate so well during our stay, Sendai Gyu (Sendai Beef) and Gyu Tan (Beef Tongue) are the specialties, we also ate our fair share of sushi and sashimi. No one seems concerned about radiation, and the Japanese are pretty paranoid about their health so I am sure if there was a problem we would know. As Sendai is north of Fukushima it is considered safer as wind and water flows south.
Back to our great Hotel, We ate breakfast each day in Symphony, the staff were welcoming and unobtrusive, there is a hot cold and continental and japanese breakfast. We got an English newspaper delivered each morning to our door. The Service Express ladies found the answer to any question we asked them. We had room service one night, it took a while but the club sandwhich was nice.
Just outside the Hotel there is a 7-11 and a Lawson which are open 24 hours for small goods and items you might need like water or an ice-cream. All international cards seem to work in the 7-11 atm if you need cash. The Pizza and Pasta restaurant downstairs in the Trust Building is very nice and does great cakes too. It is an easy walk to the main shopping arcades and I would recommend this Hotel to everyone who wants a comfortable base to enjoy Sendai and surrounding areas.

This is a new hotel and we like the hotel decoration. Our favorite place is the lounge on the top floor and we can see lovely Sendai town during the night. The hotel locates in the area that you could walk to JR station, about 10 minutes.

The food is good, we also try Japanese breakfast and really enjoy it.

Ox tongue is favorite in Sendai. A bit strange for us to eat Ox tongue from the beginning, however after a week there, we decided to give a try and guess what!!! It is delicious and we love it.

If we have to go back to Sendai, this hotel will be sure our destination.
