I liked this hotel, for the price it was good value. Great bed and pillows. This is a business hotel for Japanese so there is little English but the desk staff were willing to help and knew enough to get by. The lady at the information counter at Sendai showed me where to go and marked the hotel on a map for me. Juat a short walk, with the hotel loby on the 5th floor.
Breakfast was Ok, coffee, pastries and cereal.

This a fuss-free hotel. We enjoy sitting around in the lounge with Wifi connection and free flow of drinks from soft-drink to coffee. The room is very good and clean, location is very central, only about 5-minute walk from Sendai main train station. Breakfast is considerably good.

I would heartily confirm the reasons other reviewers applaud the Richmond Hotel Premier Sendai Ekimae. (When reserving, making sure that you don't confuse this location with the other Richmond hotel in Sendai!).
The highs: very convenient to the station and shopping; a good-sized room, above the normal for Japanese hotels; a double bed is available rather than twins only; nice well-lit room for breakfast off the lobby.
I was a bit leery of a front room facing the street because of the complaints others made about the "talking robot" traffic signal. Granted it is loud; but on the other hand because it is only on from 7 AM to 9 PM, it's unlikely to disturb your sleep. That's an important qualifier--the noise doesn't continue all night long. Get a high room if you're still concerned.
My only gripe was the difficulty I had finding a decent restaurant in the few blocks around the hotel. You really have to return to the vicinity of the station.

Room Tip: We didn't find street noise to be much of an issue

Located a block away from Sendai Station and a few steps away from the downtown shopping area and the subway, this is a perfect place to stay. Very friendly staff that are able to communicate in English. Great amenities in the room and a free breakfast with good selection is offered each morning. Superb housekeeping. Pricing is fair. Room size is small (although quite comfortable) but that is expected in Japan.
We were very pleased and will stay here again when we return to Sendai.

The hotel is in a very good location, one of the main reasons for us to choose it. It has a bus-stop nearby and Sendai Station is only a 5 minute walk from there.
If you want to go shopping, the large arcades are just around the corner and theres a japanese restaurant underneath the hotel, although we haven't been there.
The service was great and there are many useful amenities, like coin washing machines, free softdrinks & coffee in the afternoon, mobile charging device in the room, free wifi and so on. It could use a hotel bar, but sendai is a great place to go out in the evening so why stay at the hotel.
I would give the service a 5-star-rating but there were 2 things that bothered me a little:

The breakfast is good, but it isn't very varied, there are only a few very specific things to choose from. Instead of providing various fruits only bananas were available. Varying it a bit would have helped (although there were some cooled and pre-cut pineapples/oranges in small plastic boxes). Another example would be the yoghurt - there was only one type available and it was very sweet. Don't get me wrong, the breakfast really is OK, but after a few days it gets boring since there's always the same jam, same fruit, same yoghurt, etc. to choose from.

The other thing that was a bit of a problem is that some of the receptionists have real troubles speaking english. I don't expect any service staff or any restaurant to speak english, after all I'm in a japanase-speaking city, but at least all the receptionists should be able to talk in english or at least be clever enough to get a colleague who can. You also have to pay using a machine which can only display japanese language.

The rooms are great, but very small. I realize that space is a very limited resource in Japan, but even in Tokio we had bigger rooms. There was also no safe in the room to put valuables in but the upper floors of the hotel (where the rooms are located) are only accessible using your room-card anway.

So to sum it up: We had a great stay and can recommend it to anyone, the few negative things I mentioned didn't really affect our great experience of visiting Sendai.

Hotel itself looks quite good. Due to the fact that there was a mistake in booking, I was offered a smoking room, what I could not accept due to healthy reasons. Hotel showed no flexibility in change the room and i had to downgrade my room! Never experienced something like that.

On arriving, the room I was first given was at the front of the hotel and - as others have mentioned - was extremely noisy because of loud, talking traffic lights!

I mentioned this to the front desk however and they cheerfully changed me to a different room at the back of the hotel (which seemed to have nicer furniture as well!).

Free breakfast was very pleasant - plenty of variety from a buffet selection.

So, no problems at all recommending this hotel if you need somewhere decent to stay in central Sendai or are looking for a convenient location for visiting Matsushima, etc.
