When in Aomori and wanting to enjoy sushi, this restaurant would be a good place. Even during a weekday evening, this place was packed. The seafood is very fresh and surely you will have more than decent dinner there if you are partial to sushi. However, the chef puts too much rice lacking refinement thus I rate this place 'very good' instead of 'excellent'. I also suggest bringing a traveler's dictionary if you are not a Japanese speaker.

Comfortable, local, spacious neighborhood atmosphere where even lady friends go by themselves to enjoy sushi with white wine. Moriawase featured famous local scallops, raw shrimp, kampachi & tuna. Reasonable price.

This place is hidden in an alley across the street from the JAL hotel. The map is accurate but if you know the symbol for "1" (i) and "8" (hachi) it helps! The place is very pretty with a chilled lacquer counter. There was no english menu but it's not that hard to order sushi in Japanese although maybe harder to get the local specialities. The sushi was fresh and tasty but in terms of value, I think the fresh market (although lacking in ambience) had the same quality fish. If you're on a budget, eat at the market. This place was nice but not mind-blowing and I don't feel the need to return.
