We drove up from Tawada-ko, which took a bit over an hour. The drive was pretty enough, although it was overcast and a little rainy that late October day The ropeway (or, gondola) itself was built some time ago, but like all things in Japan was well maintained and spotlessly clearn. The ride takes you up to a cute little visitors center, and from there you can walk about a 1 km loop train or wander futher afield. Boots are available to get you through the wet spots, and being it was a bit rainy that day there were well appreciated. Although the clouds prevented us from seeing more than few hundred meters, the area was gorgeous green, with a couple lovely wetlands to view. The visitor center has the typical little eating area (curry rice, noodles, Asahi, etc). On the first floor they show the famous movie set on the mountain three time a day. I really liked this place - pretty and very Japan.
