“Good for souvenirs or a wet day; Panorama movie is Five Stars”
Reviewed May 17, 2012

This is an tall A-shaped building a few minutes walk from Aomori Station, facing the seafront. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but a lot of the building is taken up with meeting and seminar rooms, so more for
locals than tourists. The main reason for tourists to go would be to purchase souvenirs. If you want one-stop shopping for Aomori produce and crafts, this is the place to do it. The other main reason would be if the weather was bad--which is why we ended up there on our last morning.

We had lunch at one of the restaurants--the more family-type one. There would have been good views on a sunny day, but the weather didn't offer good visibility. The food was good but the service was very slow, so maybe not a good choice if you are in a hurry. The kids enjoyed getting some snack type foods downstairs--fried noodles and the like. You can apparently pay to go up to the observation deck on the 13th floor, but we skipped this.

One thing I would definitely recommend is the panorama show--maybe the 2nd floor. It is basically a 360 photo, lights and sound display in a theatre, but it captures the beauty and culture of the Aomori area very well. Surprisingly enjoyable. A small fee for adults, half price or less for kids and students, and you get a free drink at the end, too.

If you happen to be there on a fine day, a walk along the park area by the seafront would be pleasant, but we didn't do this due to the weather.

“View of Aomori at a glance”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

The A shaped building that is just 10 mins walk from the Aomori station. The building itself, except for the light up at night, has nothing much worth a visit. But the view from the top is a must go in the day. The entrance fee is ¥400 with a complimentary drink from the vending machine. The sight of the unmistakable yellow colored Hakkoda Maru permanently moored at the port, the horizon far out in the sea line, the unique express bridge were breathtaking. It would be icing on the cake if I could get a clear view of Mount Hakkoda. Alas, the summit was partially abscured by the cloud. Even with that, the view was still spectacular. If you have the time, visit this place just once will be enough. Bring a good camera along for a good picture that says all about Aomori, it's sea.
