Owner description: Ritsurin Garden is a superb cultural asset that conveys the characteristics of the daimyo strolling gardens that were typically seen in the 17th and 18th century. A daimyo strolling garden is a type of traditional Japanese garden in which ponds and hills are expertly constructed over a vast tract of land, and you can enjoy the garden's space as you leisurely walk around inside.

“Beautiful!!!”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

This is an extraordinary garden in every season, and it doesn't have the number of people you will find at the 'Top 3' which makes it even more enjoyable. Take a bus from the main station, you'll do enough walking in the garden! Don't miss the interesting museum which closes 1 1/2 hours before the rest of the garden.

“Amazing place!”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

We really enjoyed Ritsuri Koen. One of the best parks we've seen across Japan. Delightful tea houses where one can enjoy a cup of tea and a piece of cake on a tatami overlooking the ponds, as well as assist to a traditional tea ceremony. The price of the entrance is totally worth it! We were luck enough to visit it with the sakura in full blossom!

“Beautiful Classical Park”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

A rather long ugly hike from the train station, but worth it. A beautiful classical Japanese garden. I viisted in prime cherry blossom viewing time, but it is apparent that this is a place that is probably beautiful during most of the year. Like the idea that I saw about three other foreigners when I was here.
