“Well run, spotless & friendly: highly recommend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2012

We stayed 6 nights in the dormy inn, takamatsu & would recommend it highly. Rooms are small but spotless & well equipped, baths are excellent & communal areas well maintained & clean. Well located, basic but good breakfast, free Internet in lobby - great hotel overall. Staff could not be more helpful, efficient & friendly. Thanks to Matsumoto & his team for making our stay so pleasant & welcoming!

As others have said this hotel is designed for the Japanese market. Breakfast is basic, but you do get your uton noodles. We tried this hotel out as an alternative to the Tokyo Inn but in reality proffered the Tokyo. It is economical.

You can use the private train to get in and out of the JR station, port and down town. Handy if your luggage is too big for a bus. The hotel is not as central as others.

Some of our travel in Japan has been in large conference hotels (because my husband was attending conferences), but we stopped in Takamatsu for a night on our own and on our own dime. The Hotel Dormy Inn has been just fine for our purposes---one day of sightseeing, especially the Ritsuen Garden. We took a taxi from the train station for about 1000 yen (about $12 at today's exchange rate). The weather is extremely hot and oppressive. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 12:30 PM which was not unexpected since check in time is 3:00 PM. We must be the only gai-jins (foreigners) they were expecting today because we were greeted by name before we said a word. The front desk guy spoke a minimum amount of English, but we understood that we could leave our suitcases which we did while we walked down a shopping arcade street a half block from the hotel most of the way to Ritsuen Garden. So, we would say the garden is in walking distance even when it was beastly out. When we returned to the hotel, our luggage had been taken to our room.
The room looks like it was recently renovated. It is small, but spotless with all the amenities one would need---a stall shower with the sink outside, a refrigerator, hair dryer, safe and a free LAN computer connection for the internet. (Two free computers with internet are also available in the lobby). Although this hotel is not particularly set up for English speakers, we figure out how to use the wall mounted air conditioner on our own using its remote control. Frankly, given the heat, a room without AC would have been intolerable. Our suitcases don't really fit in the room if they are both open, but for one night this hotel is a fine, comfortable choice. The room is very quiet and the bed and bedding is inviting.
We were able to have two decent meals at close by restaurants by pointing, pantomime and a Google translator app.

The bed was 2 meters long! so we were able to fit in. free laundry, nice onsen and very clean rooms! downside, it is targeting the Japanese travellers; so no western style breakfast and hardly anything is in English. Few staff members can speak (a little bit of) English.
Location is in the middle of the restaurant and shopping area, 5 bus stops from central station.

This chain of small hotels offers great value and I was most impressed by the 2 Dormy Inns we stayed in (here and in Kanazawa). I booked both through agoda.com. The rooms are small, sure, but they include in the price use of beautiful top-floor onsens with outside tubs, too. You get a free English language newspaper, clothes brush to use, febreeze-like spray, a clean room, comfy PJ's for the onsen, coffee in the AM, free computers in the lobby. I don't require many hotel services, so for me, the Dormy was just great. We did not take the breakfast, which was a reasonable price, about $7.50 USD. The beds are very firm, which I found perfect.

My friends and I stayed here only one night, but we really enjoyed it.

The rooms are average size (small for Western standards) but clean, adequate, and the beds comfortable. Our room had an ensuite shower, but we all opted to use the communal shower/onsen on the top floor. The onsen was really nice and quite a surprise (especially the outside portion), since none of us had ever stayed at a Dormy Inn before.

The staff were very helpful and someone on staff even spoke basic English. There was a restaurant in the building that was open for breakfast and a short time at night (around 8:30 or 9:30?)- maybe for those who want a late snack? We did not eat at the restaurant though.

The location was great, as other reviewers have also stated, plus there are great places to get udon (the region's specialty) within walking distance.

Stayed here for a couple of nights when i was using Takamatsu as a base to explore Shikoku. Hotel is very new, 2 minutes walk to the main shopping arcade. Room was a typical Japanese business hotel room, but there is a great rooftop onsen. There is also a laundry where you can wash for free and just pay for the dryer. Would definitely stay here again. The Domy Inn chain are great value for money.
