“best transportation in the city”
Review of Yui Rail

This is the only transportation we used in Naha city except for our legs:)

Very convenient to connect Airport (only 15min to main shopping stations) and Shuri (30min to Airport and 15min to shopping street).

Punctual on timetable and easy to get direction on stations/timing/exit.

1day pass only Yen 600 (we bought such for last day going to Shuri and also finally back to airport) quite good deal.

Once inconvenience is that escalator is not available in all stations and you might need to carry your luggages on steps.

Among inconvenient public transports in the Naha area, this is the one you can rely on. It connects Okinawa International Airport and Shuri, an ancient capital of Ryukyuu Kingdom. There are a number of hotels and hostels near the stations. The monorails run very punctually, especially so compared with the local busses which are expensive if you compare their fees with those in other cities that attract tourists from the world like in Nice, San Diego, Paris among others. This does not mean that the fee of this "Yui-rail" is inexpensive, though.

If your hotel is located close to a monorail station it is a good option compared to taxis when travelling to and from Naha airport. It works out better than a taxi even for two persons.

Other than that it feels like an embodiment of Nahas' inferiority complex to other Japanese towns with bigger railway networks. It feels more like a toy that Naha needs to claim status of a decent town as Yui-rail route is very limited and far from practical in several segments compared to what you can do by bus and sometimes even on foot.

If you need to visit many places in Naha during the same day I would suggest exploring whether buses bring you closer and faster to where you actually want to go and save you the walk to the station and climb up and down the stairs.

Very easy to use, and relatively inexpensive. Great to use when there are major Naha events and parking is sparse.
