“Shuri Castle”

Amazing history, definitely worth the 800 yen to go inside. Make sure you walk around the castle walls for some spectacular Naha City views!

“Shuri Castle and surrounding area”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Make sure you explore the areas around the castle - the 'outer' buildings and the stone road are as historically interesting as the castle itself.

During this visit we noticed that visitors are now unable to even enter the forecourt area of the castle - you now need to purchase a ticket to access this. Good value, though, at around 800 yen.

If you have a 3 day Yui Rail pass, make sure you present this when purchasing your tickets and you will receive a discount.

“A great half a day trip”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We enjoyed the place very much and some of the surroundings. Only made a bit of a mistake by not going to the nearby Shikina -en gardens straight from there.

“Nice scenery and castle”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Must go if you stay in Naha. about 25 mins drive from Naha. A very well maintained Shuri Castle and surrounding area. In the main island of Okinawa there are 9 World Heritage Sites and this area have 3 of them. The Castle itself looks amazing, along with the different doors and gates provided lots of photo taking opportunities. Also it has a nice and easy path for the people with disability.

“Crowded”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

It was hard to really appreciate the walk through the castle. Many tourists that you feel rushed; Most signs are not in english so besides looking at the display, you can't really appreciate the history. Walk was rather long for those with limited mobility and even with the accessible path, it was still slopey.
