This is a great choice, but it gets crowded early, so be sure to try and come before 6:30 if you want a table. Also, this would be a really challenging choice if no one in your party speaks Japanese. If you lack a Japanese speaker, here are some great classic Ishigaki choices that will feed two to three people: goya champuru, shima dofu no ninniku shoyu, ikasumi chahan, kaisen salada, asa no tempura. This is what we ordered (two people) and it was more than enough. These five dishes are grouped together as the five most popular items. The total bill was around 4000 yen.

This is a must go to place!

Limited menu and a bit pricey (800 jpy for just that much Champloo??) but still worth it. Father in law is a picky eater but he liked this so much we went 2 consecutive days. Very good jimami-dofu and excellent Asa-tempura. More an Izakaya than a real restaurant but quality food

No English menu, although we managed to figure out enough options by using a Japanese phrasebook. The usual items were all there --- pig ear salad, sea grapes, etc. What we ordered was promptly delivered, well prepared, and delicious. The waiters were very helpful and friendly, despite being extremely busy.

If I had only one place to eat in Ishigaki, this would be my choice.

Recommended by Lonely Planet, I wanted to try. No English menu although waiter did speak some English and just look around at what others are eating. I had standard Ikasumi chahan (squid ink fried rice), goya-champuru (bitter melon, tofu, egg), sashimi Moriawase (sashimi assortment), sashimi salad, and fried noodles. All were great dishes and very fresh. I would consider Paikaji one of the best Okinawan restaurants.
