“Great friendly hotel”

We stayed 2 night in Sepember. The service was friendly and warm. The room was very big - we actually got 4-persons room for a couple. The onsen was clean and nice. 8 minutes walk from the bus station.

Stayed here for 2 nights in November last year. Chose this place as it has several in-house onsen and is near JR Beppu station. It is quite near to the station and you can reach this place within a short 5-minute walk. There are 3 private onsens and 1 public one (separated by male and female). I went to the public one for the first night and it was empty except for a friend and myself. Found the water a little too hot and only stayed for about 10 minutes. Went to the private one for the second night and it was nice as the temperature can be adjusted.

A yukata was also provided and everyone wore the yukata around the ryokan premise. We took the dinner (4,000 yen) for 1 night and breakfast (1,000 yen) for 1 morning. The food was pretty average but the service by the old ladies was good. Overall, a highly recommended ryokan for its in-house onsen!

The location of the hotel isn't far at all from the non stop bus station I took from Fukuoka (as I landed in Fukuoka). It is actually only a walking distance!

When I got to the hotel, the service was very nice, very friendly and helpful people. We stayed around 4 nights and made full use of the private hot spring facility they offer, which was definitely worth trying!

There is also Tokiwa department store and Youme town (shopping centre) located in a walking distance from the hotel, which makes it super convenient for us!

Even though the water in the bathroom runs very low that it's not convenient to take shower, the other features of the hotel are great which let's me put 5 ratings for this hotel!

Stayed here late in April for one night. The room was traditional and clean. Unfortunately it smelled strongly of cigarette smell. It is located down an alley near the sea and a 10 min walk to the station. Staff spoke little English but were able to recommend a great restaurant and happily looked after our gear for a few hours on our departure day. Breakfast was very traditional and the family onsen was good but very hot! Would I stay here again.. Probably not... But it was worth the stay for the traditional experience in the touristy town of Beppu.

Good location between Beppu train station and the sea, but the marker in google maps was wrong (might be fixed now). Traditional Ryokan probably built some decades ago. There is Wifi in the lobby and rooms. Staff speaks only little English. There are three private and one public onsen. Don't miss them. Exciting Japanese breakfast (but western style is available, too).

Expecting a quaint little village (didn't do my research properly) we were disappointed to find Beppu is a large rather charmless city (120,00 people) and the ryokan was down an alley in the central part of the city not too far from the train station. Having stayed at Lake Toya in the north of Japan, this lacked any similar charm and the view was merely the back of other city buildings. No real complaints about the place and the staff were very kind and helpful. The ryoken's onsen (male one floor, female another) was VERY hot. Probably way too hot for most westerners, so that was a disappointment. Only one pool. If you're thinking of Beppu, aim for something way out of the downtown area.

Room Tip: The Japanese room have tatami floors and there are often spare bed rolls if you find the one put out...

Felt traditional but with modern conveniences like an adjustable heater, Wifi(decent), western style toilet (heated seat of course) and a television that had Japanese shows only, but who needs tv anyway when you have youtube. I came here during the Christmas holiday and it really wasn't too busy. The natural spring hot baths or onsens were great although extremely hot! there is a cold water tap you can turn on but it takes a while to bring down the temp. Basically how it works is they have a paper at the desk with available times up until midnight, you put your name down for whatever time and your good to go. The two private baths are directly across from the hotel, but the public bath is indoors. Btw, if you want the full onsen experience I recommend Hyotan onsen which is about a fifteen minute bus ride from the hotel... you are expected too walk around naked in front of other men so expect that.
