Got to experience classic Japanese Onsen. Well, most occupants were Japanese. Though owner speaks little English, was very helpful along with staff.

Not a big hotel which is great. Homely. We booked a small room with sharing toilet and bath. Was fortunate enough to have been upgraded, else would have been fine too. Upgraded room had toilet within.

Open Onsen was nifty. Comfy. Hope to visit again.

We were helped a lot. My wife suddenly lost sight on her left eye. Okamisan really quickly called a taxi and gave me the best eye doctor in the town. We could continue our wonderful trip.
She explained the hot spring and Ryokan was the origin of Beppu hot springs and the neighbor temple was from Kamakura era (12nd-13th.c).
Its hot spring is just great and would make you feel born new again. The dinner is super for local fresh fish, vegetables and also great Gohan (steamed rice). Even for most picky Japanese rice eaters, this Gohan should be the paragon.
I would of course like to repeat, and recommend this place.

It was conveniently located and easy to find. The B&B is run by a family who actually lives there. Since this is our first time staying at a traditional Japanese style B&B, we were surprised that they charged us additional fees for bedding sets. The bedding sets were okay but did not seem very clean - there's no bed sheet, only duvet and Japanese style pillows which were not too comfortable. The room is spacious nonetheless. There is no shower in the room so one can only take shower in the spa area. There are two spa - indoor and outdoor. The outdoor one is nicer. We were expecting more in terms of hospitality but that could be due to language barrier. The owners tried to help though without much success.
