Most sushi that comes around on a conveyor belt can be quite horrible. However, Suiten does quite well. The fish is fresh and good quality. Of course for the quality you will pay quite a bit more than most of the sushi chains. But it is worth it. I recommend the fatty salmon (toro-salmon).

We usually host our friends who visit our town for the first time here. It looks good and offer a relaxed atmosphere. In this sushi restaurant you can have variety of fresh fish and seafood. There are two restaurants in Beppu city and I saw another one in Oita city but I only went to the one in Beppu Ishigaki.

This restaurant follows the new trend in Sushi shops in Japan mixing the casual atmosphere with higher quality fish and sushi dishes. Rather than opt for traditional sophisticated and often expensive sushi locale, these new trending sushi shops often have kaiten-sushi (conveyor belt sushi), but slightly higher quality and prices than the 100 yen/150 yen a plate cheap sushi places. They also have dishes not seen at either the cheap kaiten-sushi places or the sophisticated expensive places (which mostly offer traditional dishes).
And Suiten is hands down a great place to eat. There are a variety of traditional and new style sushi dishes. Several of the dishes you can order offer you a fish three ways, or a type of fish three ways. These kinds of dishes offer a variety not seen in traditional or cheap sushi resteraunts. In addition, you always have the conveyor belt going around to grab whatever pulls your imagination.
The staff are very accomodating and the sushi comes quickly. There are a number of staff working all the time.

There are a couple of caveats you should be aware of when visiting Suiten.
First, the place is popular. So, it will fill up very quickly almost everyday of the week for lunch. If you go for lunch be there at open or just after opening to get a seat without waiting.
Second, not all seats have access to the conveyor belt. If you don't mind sitting at the counter or a table without access to the conveyor belt, you will wait less. There is still a place for those without conveyor belt access to stand and get some dishes from the conveyor belt.

Other than that, this is good quality sushi with a variety of dishes at reasonable prices.

This is a typical Japanese sushi restaurant. Friendly staff receives you at the door and will take you to your table (you can seato near the sushi bar if you want to). If you go for table, you are required to take your shoes off so try to wear a decent pair of socks! They don't have menu written in English but the images are clear and you can use them when you order. Another tip: you have to write what you want to order so ask the waitress for her help and use the menu for ordering your food.

The price varies and the portions are not huge, 3 or 2 items per plate (Japan standard portion) but I am a serious eater and I spend around 2000 yen dessert included. The quality of the food is very good so I am sure that you won't be disappointed.

Please check the timetable of the restaurant beforehand.
Hope you enjoy Suiten
