We only did a day trip at JPY1200/pax for the onsen, did not stay at their ryokan. It is near bus stop but to note the timing of bus intervals as they are not frequent. Great onsen with magnificent view of Beppu Myoban Bridge. Unfortunately, ladies onsen was not on the first floor where the outdoor pools are on the day I was there (they will rotate between male and female baths).

I have been to more beautiful and larger onsens in Japan before but Ebisuya gives the guests a relaxing feel especially the resting area at a corner of the lobby with resting chairs, smell of aromas, magnificent view of the bridge. There are some cute cat crops you can use to take souvenir photos too.

Have been to several Onsen sites in Beppu, the smell of Myoban was definitely the strongest. The spring was somewhat white (similar to but a bit lighter than milk).

There were two popular outdoor Onsen, one by Myoban Yu no Sato and the other by Okamotoya. The price was 600 yen and 500 yen respectively.

If you have time, I strongly recommend you take a hot spring bath outdoor. The view was really great.

Out of all the places we have visited in Japan, including major cities like Tokyo, this onsen is among my top five choices.
The location is a quick and cheap bus ride away. Just take the local bus from Beppu. The place is easily identifiable by the large main building at the front. Beyond the entrance are a few stands selling crafts and eggs boiled using the sulfuric water of the region.
By far the best part however, has to be the onsen itself. It is located with mountains on each side. There are flowering trees lining the boiling hot pool of natural water.
This gorgeous onsen is one of the most magnificent spots in Japan!

JNTO mentions nothing in their .PDF files but if you Google their site they do have a short feature about it.

I had been to Beppu around 4-5 times and never knew about this place because it is somewhat north of the city. I found it on the way to the Safari Park via rental car. It was obviously a major attraction from the road so I stopped by. The thatched huts in a hot spring area are very unique to Japan, and very picturesque. There is an area where you can walk around and view the various configurations. You can go up a dirt road to a small shrine. There is a big gift house with a restaurant. Don't forget the huts across the street. At the roadstop there you can buy eggs boiled in the salt springs. I bought 3 eggs but should have bought more. Definitely the best hot spring eggs I have eaten because they were perfectly salted. The salt comes from the hot spring vapors.

It's sorta funny how unknown this place is, yet there were busloads of Korean tourists when I was there!

Don't forget to visit the Safari Park either. Ideally, use a rental car to get around.
