Unpretentious hotel with friendly service, clean room, small bathroom, no-frills indoors onsen and simple breakfast. Perfect for 1-2 nights stay on a budget. We arrived 2 hours before official check-in time but the gracious lady at reception asked housekeeping to get the room ready - a nice touch after a long flight and straight 2-hour drive from Fukuoka. The car park is just behind the hotel. The location is a bit far from Beppu town centre but there is a free hotel shuttle. Free wi-fi is only available at the Annex lobby across the street - just a minor inconvenience. Overall, we felt that we got what we paid for.

Room tip: Ask for room on higher floor with sea view.

Great value deal through booking on the internet - via a Japanese friend. Friendly hourly pick up service from main JR station makes this slightly out-of-the-centre hotel very convenient. You can also use the pick up shuttle bus to get back into town in the mornings. Good breakfast mostly Japanese style on the 10th floor gives great views over the town towards the sea. Also on this floor is a lovely onsen at no extra charge. Ideally located also for the coastal sand bath which is not to be missed in Beppu. You lie in an individual sand pit and get covered in sand warmed by thermal waters. A lovely relaxing 15 minutes (1,000 yen). For an evening meal, virtually opposite the hotel is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant with delicious changing choices, most of which are just 105 yen. An easy choice for the non-Japanese speaker. Unlimited free green tea too.
