We were able to get a top floor at the Aoshima Grand Hotel with a spectacular ocean view along with a view of Aoshima. The hotel is a bit tired looking like it hasn't been renovated since the 1960’s. However, everything was in good working order although I must've bumped my head (I'm 187 cm) on at least a half dozen doorways throughout the hotel. We got the half board package which included an average dinner and an excellent breakfast set meals. The roof top onsen, while tiny, had a fantastic view of the ocean. Sauna and a bigger pool was available in the basement as well. The hotel seemed to be a little overstuffed as it seemed like they were popping up all over the place bowing and greeting. The lobby has a display of memorabilia from the popular basebal club Yomiuri Giants, as they stayed here a few times for spring trainings not the past.

we enjoyed a traditional japanese lunch including chicken appertizer, miso soup, sashimi, brown rice with mushrooms and pickled vegetable. prompt and friendly service. following lunch we had a pleasant visit to the Aoshima Shrine. The mango fruit is a local favorite which we enjoyed.

Nice room! the view of sea in room is best! Nice food~ Nice hot spring! highly recommended! 5 mins wslk from JR train station. 2 mins walk from bus stop. Service is good! I love this hotel. Some day I will come back to enjoy another vacation!

We booked a Japanese room with a private onsen.

It is a 10 minute walk from the train station. The location right in front of the beach meant that we were splashing in the cold waters of the pacific within seconds from the hotel.

The hotel enjoyed guests in summer from all walks of life - from young families and kids, surfers and seniors on group tour. The vibe was wholesome and down-to-earth. In the evenings one can almost guarantee non-stop chatter at the open-air onsen from the top floor. The shoju bar was very affordable and full every evening. There is a very family feel to the hospitality of the Grand Hotel which was friendly and welcoming. There is also a modern beach park in front of aoshima island and the beach park had coffee shops operating out of containers. We loved going there for coffee and ice cream in the day.

While the hotel is rather dated in terms of its furnishings, the staff were friendly and helpful. English may not be widely spoken but they managed to call the car rental company and arranged for the car to be delivered to the hotel. The lovely old ladies waiting on us in the restaurants entertained our 20 month old son throughout our meals.

It was a terrific stay overall and one of the most underrated areas in Japan.

This was extremely good value for money. We had a Western/Japanese combination room, which was extremely spacious. The staff were very friendly and keen to help as much as possible. We wanted to hire a car for our stay in Miyazake and they arranged for the car hire company to deliver a car the following day. They also recommended nearby restaurants and surf shops. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Aoshima Island and has open air onsens on the top floor with a fantastic view. The décor is a little dated but this just adds to the charm of the place. We booked through a travel website to obtain a better rate but ended up staying an extra night and paying directly to the hotel, which was actually the same price. We weren't guaranteed a non-smoking room but the receptionist saw we had a 7 month baby with us and ensured we got one. There was fresh cold and hot water in the room every day, as well as biscuits. For the price of the hotel, compared to other hotels in Japan, I rate this as an excellent stay.
