The hotel was great, except that the rooms were kind of small. However, according the Japanese standards, I would say the size is quite acceptable.

At night around 9pm-11.30pm, they serve free singing noodles, which are basically sort of a Japanese noodles.

The hotel has an onsen which you can enjoy after consuming the noodles! Hotel staff were friendly and courteous and the one I spoke to was able to understand some English. I had ordered breakfast and there's quite a spread offered. They offered it in sort of a buffet style :)

What else can you ask for ? It was next to the Kotsu bus station and a few minutes walk to the tram station (the JR train station is 5 tram stops away by line A) which is situated in the main shopping area. It's also walking distance to the castle, the key attraction of Kumamoto. The room is small but comfortable. The washing basin is in the room, outside of the bathroom which is rather convenient. There is wi-fi plus complimentary coffee on the ground floor. There is also onsen on the 13th floor - separate for men and women. Within the women section, there is an indoor one, connnecting to an outdoor one, both of which are practically open over night. You have to shower before you use the onsen and the shower area is very well equipped. In your room, you will also find quasi kimono like outfit which is for going to the onsen. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment on that. Will definitely stay there again if ever go to Kumamoto.

The onsen is good, actually better than expected. Breakfast is also ok. The room is clean but the size is rather small, but still got everything you needed. If you're planning to staying here, prepare to travel light or accept that if you open your large luggages, there won't be much room to move around. Otherwise it's a pretty nice place. The location is quite far from the JR station, better to use tram to go to the hotel.

Still consider returning..

What more can you ask for? Located next to the Kotsu Bus Center and a short walk to the Castle or a ride on the nearby tram. A newer hotel (2008) with well appointed rooms and a rotemburo on the 13th floor to soak in after a hard day of sight seeing. Tip: you can easily get to Kumamoto train Station by taking a bus at bay 19, 20 or 21 in the Kotsu BusCenter. The bus bays are diagonally across the street from the front door of the hotel. Pay 130 yen upon leaving the bus.

That's the 3rd time I'm going to a Dormy Inn, I like them because they have onsen.
In this one there is a very big onsen, even with an outside bath.
There is also free ramen from 9pm30 to 11pm!
The hotel is located 2km away from the train station, but there is a tram to go there. The hotel is near to the castle and the center of the city.
We had a double room but I found the bed a bit small.
You have a fridge, free tea, aircon and internet (no wifi) in the room.
The only negative part was that the 2nd night that was all night long some water noise from some other room.
So if you like onsen, I really recommend this one!

Room Tip: With booking.com you can have very good deals for this chain of hotels!

Do you like a onsens? On the top floor this hotel has its own communal bathing area inside and two small connected onsens outside of the roof top. Before entering the baths you have to was before hand then can enter the cold water and graduate to the warm water onsen and finally the outside hot water onsen. There is a vending machine before you enter the free onsen and you can buy drinks including beer at cheap prices. Now on to breakfast...a superb spread of japanese dishes including fish, miso soup, salad, juices, tea, coffee. Also simple Western breakfast with bread and a toaster is available, fried eggs and small sausages.

Who cares about the room...its small but comfortable and has LAN connection which is fast. Paid Yen 7000 per night including breakfast. It was a double bed in my case so if 2 people want to sleep there you would want to be use to double beds. No space for luggage so put it on the bed, choose what you want and stand the case back up on the floor. My view was inside facing looking towards anothe rbuilding so nothing exciting. Honestly, though I chose the hotel for the onsen and it met this requirement in every respect then some. The breaksfast was brilliant and the room was comfortable at a very affordable price. Choose this hotel, enjoy the breakfast and onsen, expect a small room and nice staff and you will not be diasppointed one bit. If you planned ahead you might be able to ask for a room with a view of the castle. Also the place is very close to the restaurant area. Your greatest difficulty will be in choosing one from the many available. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: There are rooms that have a view of the Kumamoto castle I beleive as we could see the hotel from the...

Hotel Dormy Inn is a great hotel chain in Japan. They all have a very similar room layout with an excellent shower. One of the nicest features is a Japanese-style bath on one of the floors that really adds to the enjoyment of the stay. The baths for men and women are separate but identical. There is a washing room with separate stalls in which you sit and wash down with wonderful soap and hand-held shower head. They both have a very hot bath and a cold bath next to it, a sauna and a hot bath under the stars if the bath is on the top floor. There are pajamas and slippers in each room so you can put them on to go to the bath or even to breakfast. Taking a hot bath before bedtime is a Japanese custom and it relaxes the muscles and facilitates a good sleep. The hotel rates are on the low end and are a real bargain for this quality.
