On a recent trip to Kyushu, we reserved a triple room at Nakazono. The nicest thing about the place is the owner who was very helpful in explaining the layout of Kagoshima. He also took us to our ferry in the morning and let us store our car for three days for a nominal fee. He has a unique way of speaking English that I found entertaining. All the guests (it was near capacity on a weeknight) were foreigners.
The accommodation itself is very basic, Japanese-style with tatami floors and futons. The room we stayed in was very large, but the walls seemed a little thin. There is a common sink in the hallway and the toilet facilities are not en suite. There are also a couple of showers for guests to share.
