“A great Kuniyoshi exhibition”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

We were lucky enough to be in Kagoshima when the Museum of Art was staging a Kuniyoshi exhibition. I like his style so won't say more other than I was very impressed. Unfortunately, there was no programme in English but the art says it all and I invented the rest.
The Museum also has a small but interesting collection of works from other leading artists from around the world so is worth a visit if you are into fine art.
The Museum also has a very good bijou cafe - the Hanasakan - with a modest but enjoyable selection of comestibles.

“Impressionism in impressively digestible bites”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Lovely gallery - the small collection of impressionist paintings makes it much easier to see the differences and for me, the Dali is to die for. Cafe is very small but perfectly formed.

“Good introduction to XXth century Japanese Art”
Reviewed April 8, 2012 via mobile

This small museum hosts a small but nice permanent collection of paintings and sculptures from Europe and Japan. The European collection focuses on the modern period, starting from Impressionism all the way to pop art. Pieces on display are few, but the major artists are well represented, from Monet, Renoir, Picasso, to Dubuffet or Andy Warhol. The Japanese collection similarly centers around the XXth century, with paintings from local artists who studied in Europe.

At the time of my visit there was an exquisite temporary exhibition showing silk paintings from the Kyoto National Museum.

Do not miss the coffee shop on the second floor.
