On the last day and last hour of our trip to Japan for Hanami, we decided to do one last thing. We heard of this famous shaved ice dessert and since we happen to be in Kagoshima, the origin of this item, we decided to look for the original shop for this dessert atTenmonkan known as Mujaki.
With only an hour to go before we need to be at the airport, we walk down Tenmonkan but failed to locate this shop. In desperation, we met some students and using a variety of gestures, we managed to get our message across but they could not describe the direction to us in English. They then decide to bring us to the shop. How nice these Japanese are as hosts!
We were there with 20 minutes left. We ordered a shaved Machar with red beans which was heavenly and a shirokuma which is a shaved ice with condensed milk and appeared like a polar bear. Nothing to shout about but something to bring back home in terms of memory.
The shop is located in an covered alley on the 2nd floor and is an ideal place for people watching if you have the time.
Good for the experience and for dessert lovers, worth finding and salivating for.
