“Good hotel in Fukuoka”
Reviewed October 8, 2012 via mobile

Rooms and facilities are excellent. Also really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Gym is good as well. Location is very good. WiFi in public areas was awful and $25 to use the pool was poor. Service seemed adequate and really did not use concierge.

This was yet another great Hyatt...not as grand as some but more than adequate. Its in one ofthe heartbeat locations of Fukuoka capnnected to a cool Canal shopping malll which is quite pricey as is all of Japan. The club level is worth the extra money because you would
ay quadruple outside the hotel for breakfast, coffee and snacks. Food in the club lounge was good but not as good as club lounges I have seen in other Hyatt Hotels. Wifi at the hotel is limited and they give you a router which is really inconvenient. Rooms overlooking the mall (i was one the top floor) can be noisy if there is an event or performance. Staff was excellent and caters to everything you need. Gym is decent...pool is very clean an indoors (swim caps requred)...onsite restaurants have many choices but are expensive. Bakery is very average. Overall and excellent hotel for a first class type traveler in Fukuoka!!!

Room Tip: Request a front room if you need quiet rest.

We went to Fukuoka for a family trip, including two kids and stayed in Fukuoka Grand Hyatt for 3 nights. Before the trip, I informed Hotel that there would be four of us in a room. The hotel reply promptly and ensure us not to worry about it, they arranged two extra beds for us FREE OF CHARGE. The room was big, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and pretty with TV, so we watched TV in the bath tub every night when we stayed there. We enjoyed every minute in the room and had a great time in Fukuoka, too.
There is always a service level for Hyatt Group and I would say this Kukuoka Grand Hyatt's services are definitely above average. The location is great and there is shopping mall connected with the Hotel. A small cafe served great croissants on B1 and it opens at 7:30am. We went Fukuoka for leisure so I did not use internet services in the Hotel, so I cannot provide any opinions on wifi or other internet connection problems. But i think it worths every penny and definitely will go back again very soon.

The room is big and clean. I like the bathroom especially if you like the onsen style. Not as gorgeous as Grand Hyatt Roppngi Hill in Tokyo but still nevertheless a decent hotel. Wifi is available in the room but the connection can be slow or inconsistent at times. Great location, right at the Canal City, which is a contemporary well designed shopping mall with many restaurants, shops, cinema, video arcades etc. The site is also between Tenjin and Hakata Station, two major shopping and business areas in Fukuoka. Service is good, especially the concierge which arranged all my dining reservations in 8 different restaurants. We had a good time here.

We had a lovely 4 days stay in the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka . Subway is 3 stops away, Nakasu-Kawabata cost Y250 and a short walk from the airport. You need to take a free shuttle from international airport to domestic airport for the subway station. Otherwise taxis are easily available at Y1500-2000.

The 1st night we had a queen room facing Canal city. Rooms were comfortable but a little small. The next day, we transferred to a twin room as the king size rooms were all occupied. The twin rooms consist of 2 queen beds, can comfortably sleep 4 person. Lovely view of the river, room was big with 2 chairs, table, well stocked mini bar, hot pot with free coffee tea.

Most beautiful part is the toilet. It's well stocked with the luxurious June Jacobs spa collection toiletries and a flat tv , make you want to stay in the toilet forever! The glass sink was a bit old and dirty underneath but it was ok in the other queen room.

The housekeepers were the most efficient that I have ever experienced. We left the room for breakfast at the lounge and in that 30 mins , my room were cleaned. It seems like they know exactly when to appear! Turn down service was at 6 pm sharp! The housekeepers left a little cookie for us and a card that says the weather and temperature for the next day. How thoughtful is that. Thank you, arigato.

Free wifi service in the room and lobby.

Canal city is just downstairs. There are shops like H&M, uniglo,ZARA, Franc franc, beauty shops and so many restaurants to choose from. The shopping streets and Tenjin station is about 10 mins walk. Newly opened Hakata station is about 1km away. Wonderful hankyu and Tokyu Hands, Daiso... Remember to bring your passport along, tourist gets a guest coupon that enables them to get a 5% discount.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Grand Hyatt. Only thing that it can improve is probably the tv channels. Mostly Japanese channels and 1 English channel which is CNN. If there is HBO, I can stay in the room the whole 4 days!

Hope you find the review useful.Thank you :-)

Room Tip: Get a twin or king room, much bigger!

Near the end of May, I redeemed Hyatt Gold Passport points for two nights in a Club King. The additional 3,000 points needed to upgrade from a standard room to a club room was well worth it, and overall, I had a fantastic stay at the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka.

The hotel is a short, ten minute walk from the JR Hakata station. Upon arriving, I was escorted up to the Club on the 5th floor to check-in at the lounge. After an explanation of the services, I was brought to my room on the 11th floor. As others have mentioned, it can definitely be a hike if you're located near the end of the hotel. On the other hand, it made for a very quiet experience.

The room itself is large for Japanese standard, with a beautiful bathroom. TVs are located in both the main room and bathroom, although no English stations are available. Internet is free, but only available via an ethernet cable. As I was traveling with an iPad and MacBook Air, I had to use the lounge for internet access. The bed was large and comfortable, and the view outwards on to the canal provided nice entertainment. The neighboring area though while safe, is a red-light district.

The lounge was small but nicely decorated with plenty of natural light. I visited the lounge for breakfast both days and enjoyed a spread of breads, cold cuts and cheeses, fruits and pastries, and cereal. The staff at the lounge were extremely attentive and quick to refill the spread.

Visiting the lounge in the evening, complimentary alcoholic drinks are provided along with hors d'oeuvres. While far from filling, it was enjoyable to spend an hour in the lounge sipping champagne or wine while reading or catching up on the days email.

The spa at the hotel is fantastic. A large, four-lane pool is available, as is a relatively large gym. Unless you're staying in a suite or club level room, the facilities are additional but I would suggest splurging on them. I was genuinely impressed with the two saunas available, along with the three hot and cold baths. Although nudity is required, do not be surprised if a female attendant is servicing the facilities.

Overall, I had a fantastic stay at the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka. It's location, although oddly placed in a shopping center, is close to plenty of good restaurants and shops, and the JR Hakata station. Had I not spent two nights at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, this would have been by far my favorite stay in Japan.

We have been staying at the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka for a number of years now. The service is generally very good - a special thank you to the concierge (I think her name was Katsuki-san) for her help when a family member needed medical attention. The problem is that the hotel is exactly the same as it was when we first started staying there. Carpets wear, dust accumulates in corners, furniture gets gouged, beds pack down, etc. Boy, do the beds pack down, but to be fair, they weren't quite as bad as the beds at the Prince Park Tower in Tokyo. But that's another review.

We had one of the "discounted" rates (ie senior, AAA, etc), but it was still 28,000 per night ($350 US). According to the front desk staff, the 600 yen discount per night was the reason we didn't get vouchers for the breakfast buffet, despite being Hyatt Gold Passport members. My advice - if you can pay 600 yen more a night and get the breakfast vouchers, by all means, do it, because the buffet is 2600 per person at present. If not, the hotel is connected to the Canal City mall, and there are dozens of restaurants in there, plus many more within walking distance. No need to pay outrageous prices for hotel food, plus there is a convenience store just across the street from the front entrance.

In summary: great location, very good service, spacious rooms by Japanese standards, aging physical plant, high priced food. Note that there is no wifi in the rooms. If you travel with a laptop or tablet that can't accept an rj45 cable, you'll either have to bring your own wifi router or buy a cheapo wifi router like I did (Yodobashi Camera by Hakata station). Otherwise you'll have to use the wifi signal in the lobby to check your email and surf the web.

We like it better than the Seahawk, the Hyatt Regency and the Nikko Hotel, but we're thinking we'll give the Hotel Okura a try next trip.

Room Tip: be sure to request a room on the river side of the hotel. Unless looking at a mall is your idea of...
