“What a great atmosphere!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

The owner came by during my stay and we became good friends. I was also invited to eat dinner with him. The kitchen and living room have a great, relaxed atmosphere, and there are 2 bathrooms so there is no trouble there. They also have a roof available for hanging out during the warmer seasons. Everything about this place helped to make my stay comfortable and cozy, and I made more friends here than I have ever made at any other guest house to date! It can be a little tricky to find, but the location is still tops.

This hostel made going to Japan a lot more affordable. It's an expensive country. It was clean and comfortable. If you're used to traveling by hostel, then you're probably laid-back, and this is a great place for the laid-back person. The tatami mats were a little hard, but that was really the only negtive.

Room Tip: There is a room right off the kitchen and it's a little noisy. If you can ask, ask for one down...

Owner of this backpacker, Shinya was an absolute delight. Polite and helpful would be an understatement! This place has 3 Tatami mat rooms, accommodating up to 15 but ususally about 12 people at one time. Very affordable accomodation for those on a budget at just Y2500 per night per person. As a family of 5 with 2 females and 3 males, we had one of the "mixed dorms". Shinya gave great advice about where to go what to do and places to eat. As far as facilities go, they have a generous lounge area, Wifi, two toilets and a shower. There is a kitchen which comfortably seats 4 and up to 6 at a time. Yummy thick Japanese bread, butter, Jam with Tea and coffee are technically provided in the Y2500 price. However, there is a coin jar on the table for breaky, which we put a couple of hundred yen in when we left. There is a washing machine and dryer which cost Y300 per machine. The staff here were happy to wash and dry the clothing which could be collected from them. We didn't take up this offer because the dryer took 3hrs and we were only there two nights. There is a roof top terrace which was quite nice for my husband and I to sit and enjoy a beer KAMPAI!

Very friendly and helpful staffs. They made very good recommendations on local food, supermarket, attractions etc. A cosy and clean house with free breakfast (bread, coffee, tea).
House itself is in residential area which is surrounded by supermarket and convenient store, restaurants...good location! There's a very nice udon shop just a few blocks from the house...don't miss!

The house is about 10-15 mins walk from Hakata station. I'd prefer this side of the city than Tenjin. It is not too quiet but not too busy. I feel that it's more 'grown up' area (more working people). You can find everything at Hakata station e.g. department stores, Tokyu hands, Muji, good sashimi restaurant. You can also walk to Canal City, about 15 mins.

The name says Tabicolle Backpacker, but it was way nicer and cosier than the name suggests.

Though it's small, the owners have done a great job of adding character to the place.

A short (10-15 min) walk from Hakata station. The directions provided are top notch.

I stayed in the mix/male dorm. Can't remember which. It slept 3 people and was roomy enough. Slept great on futons/tatami mats.

Toasts and jam were provided free.

Met some friendly people.

Clean showers and toilet and never had to wait.

They gave me a hair drier to dry my shoes when they got wet in the rain!

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it's on the first floor with a steep staircase and no lift access, so older/disabled people might have a problem.

Apart from that, 2 thumbs up. RECOMMENDED!

The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were spotless. They also provide free tea/coffee and toast with butter and jam for breakfast. Some travellers may be put off by the traditional sleeping arrangements and sharing of the bathroom, nevertheless, this is definitely a hostel to check out it you're spending a few nights in Fukuoka.

I arrived at 10pm and check in was quick. The youth hostel website has a map that is easy to follow. It was only a 20 min walk from Hakata Station. Great as I had to walk back to the station for a highway bus leaving at 7am the next morning.
Convenience store and supermarket nearby.
There were free toast and jam for breakfast.
There were 1 mixed and 1 female dorm. 4 women stayed in one dorm, sleeping on tatami floor.
An inexpensive choice in an expensive country.
