We nearly missed the temple but when you see the bright orange/read pagoda with the golden tip you know you have reached the Tochoji Temple. The temple ground is beautiful and you could explore it in leisure. We again almost miss the Wooden Buddha because the signage wasn't very clear and we don't read Japanese. The Wooden Buddha is in the modern building just next to the temple on the 2nd floor. We don't see any lift facility so not too sure if wheel-chair access is possible.

The temple and temple grounds are very beautiful. Lots of photo opportunities. There is a nice pagoda on the grounds. History stretches back over 1,200 years to early Buddhism brought over from Tang era China. Features the largest Wooden Buddha in Japan. Completed in 1992. 3 blocks from Dormy Inn Gion. Ice cream shop next door also very nice and worth a stop.

Went to this temple as part of the Fukuoka Walks tour. Recommend if you are in the area. It is interesting to see a 1200 yr old temple surrounded by modern architecture. Unfortunately no photos allowed of the largest wooden Buddha in Japan but you can take photos of the beautiful pagoda.

Like the temple. gives you a sense of peacefulness. Just like any temples in Japan the gardens are nice to look at and the budha sitting inside is rather huge. i was told it was the largest.
it is located where the yearly Yamakasa Festival takes place.
It was an exciting experience for me and my family.

We walked to temple from Hakata Station, which took around 10 mins, the temple is located next to main street. Not very big and in fact, its only one building which took us less than 10 mins to look around
