We walked into Chikae at around 5.15pm without a reservation. We almost did not make it to dine there. However, one of the waitresses kindly squeezed us into a corner row in front of the many large tanks...and 20 minutes later ushered us to a bigger table. That being said, highly suggest reservations be made if one chooses to dine there.
The place was packed with what seemed to be corporate dinners/entertainment. My kids were to only children in the restaurant!
We order the squid (live one), sashimi and an assortment of seafood cum staples. The meal was simply memorable. The deal with the live squid was quite a sight, especially when its served alive (and quite big)...don't want to describe more but highly recommend this dish to anyone planning to visit this place. We eventually had it done tempura style and it was really nice and juicy.
Service was exceptional. We were given an English menu without having to ask for one. The waitresses were patient in taking the order and made some good suggestions.
Our family enjoyed the meal here and would recommend it for sure. Plan for app US$70-80 per pax with beer thrown in.
