Very good ryokan easily accessible from Kyoto via a short train ride. Easy pickup via shuttle bus from the station, and excellent service throughout. Tried all four of their baths and they are very good, and surprisingly not very busy? Our package also allows a private booking which is nice for couples. The rooftop bath is nice but the best has got to be the outdoor rock garden, simply magical at night with the mist and lighting!
We booked directly through their website as they were running a promotion (free snow crab with dinner) - meals were uniformly excellent.
The only downside which prevents a full score was that our japanese style room was a bit small and dark (low ceiling). Luck of the draw, as our travel companions got a much better room at the same rate. Also, there's not much to see around the area, so be prepared to spend most or all of your time at the inn.

Matsuko San was jus an amazing host.
Variety of onsens to chose from with excellent rooms and staff support.
The onsens allowed for star gazing or quiet reflections in the greens. Especially enjoyed the traditional n well thought out breakfast sets.

We made our way here from Kyoto by train and was picked up by their complimentary bus from the station. Definitely would recommend paying a bit extra to get the dinner and breakfast included in your stay!

The staff were incredible and made check-in and service very easy.

We stayed in a Japanese style room which was so so spacious it was like an apartment. We didn't even have to set up our beds as the staff did it while we attended our set course dinner.

The dinner was incredible and made the price paid to stay at the hotel very worth it. It was truly delicious and included a paper that explained what each dish was. Each person having dinner had there own private room to eat in. If we had eaten that dinner elsewhere is would have cost the price of the stay here at Yumotokan. SO WORTH IT!

The hot springs available were awesome. 2 baths open to the public and 2 exclusive to hotel guests. The exclusive open air baths were incredible! Especially in the cold. Be mindful that the baths alternate between gender on a day to day basis so if you're only staying for one night you'll have to attend one of them early in the morning before you check out. Very doable as the onsen's open at 5am!

Room Tip: We chose a Japanese style room which we would definitely recommend!

Our 3rd time vacationing in Japan and 2nd time going to these Onsen hotel/resort. We are a group of 2 families 4 adults and 3 kids arrived late afternoon, check-in was fast, and the receptionist took his time to explain how to get to our room, when and where was dinner, and hot springs location (different floors) and time of use. Our room was spacious with good view of the small town and water. Same with other high end hotels, room was kept extremely clean with all amenities available, including indoor wear that we can wear around the premise. There is a game room for kids (with play structure and some video games), but ended up my buddy and I had the most fun at the ping pong table :)
The main event for us was the dinner, we walked in at 7pm and everything was set, and presentation of each dish was perfect! We opted for Omi beef set, and we were very impressed with quality of the grilled meat and beef for shabu shabu. We also ordered a bottle of sake which was house-brewed by the hotel, and it was very tasty. Everything was done in perfection, and we all thought this meal was worth the hotel cost for our stay!
Our ladies went for massages after dinner but their feedback was so so, nothing to write home about, and it was quite pricy.
My friend and I went for the hot spring at 11th floor of our building, since we went late (around 10pm), the whole place was quiet, and we basically got the whole hot spring to ourselves. It was a great experience dipping into hot spring when the outdoor temp was around 0 degree. After hot spring, we settled in the little izakaya restaurant for some snacks and beer, food was delicious and priced reasonable.
Next morning breakfast was also included and again we were very impressed with the presentation and the thoughtfulness of the meal, all ingredients were prepared based on the season we were in.
We only stayed for 1 night, but wished we would spend more time there. As we checked out and drove back to Osaka, we all felt well rested and refreshed.
Overall, I'll give 5 star to this Onsen, and a must try for anyone who's vacationing in Japan, we truely enjoyed our stay! Well done Yumotokan! :)
