“Just a place of lodging”

Room is small as norm for Japanese hotels. Only 1 restaurant in Hotel which is so-so, therefore no choice if you arrive late in the day. Not much in surrounding area of hotel as it takes 20 minutes bus ride from Airport and Rinku-Town but shuttle service not operating whole day - no service after 10:00 am and before 6:00 pm.
One good point worth mention is that the Hotel is right next to Hineno Train Station, just 2 minutes walk.

There's absolutely nothing to recommend the Best Western Izumisano; it's not cheap enough to be a budget place, it's not convenient to the airport, its rooms are small, stuffy and smell like an ashtray, it's serviced by only two creakingly slow lifts and is stunning located immediately adjacent (and I mean immediately - we're talking a couple of meters) from a very busy railway line...really, not a jewel in the Best Western crown.

Finally, more hotels in Japan are moving away from the pre-fab plastic drop in bathrooms, the overheated aircon that you can't control and rooms in which you can touch each wall with your arms outstretched. It seems that the Best Western is falling well behind.

I have a serious issue with chains of hotels that offer such massive quality differentials between different locations. I mean, what's the point of having a brand if it carries no meaning whatsoever? Regular Best Western guest will not recognise this hotel as being anywhere near the standards of the rest of the group.

There are far better options for a transit hotel, and I strongly recommend that you consider them.

Despite a free shuttle from Kansai airport, it is over 25 minutes drive away. Rooms are small the bathroom is cramped. Front desk staff were rude. I was unsure if I was going to fly out in the morning, the lady at the desk got angry at me because I wouldn't make a booking for the airport shuttle for the next morning. The hotel is however close to a JR train station.

The service at kanku hotel is pretty ok. Front staff speaks decent english. The room is clean and it provides basic ammenities. Although not very near to kansai airport, the hotel provides complimentary shuttle service every hour. There is also a jusco supermarket at aeon plaza which is about 7-8mins walk from the hotel.

For an airport hotel, we certainly didn’t expect much, but was pleasantly surprised on the contrary. The hotel was fairly easy to get to using the free shuttle bus from Kansai Airport; though somewhat infrequent, only one bus per hour, nevertheless it was a worry-free mode of transport.
On arrival, obviously because it wasn’t during peak season, we were offered an upgrade (from twin to double) for only extra ¥1000. Being a double, the room was therefore really spacious. It composed of large sleeping area with queen size bed and sitting area with a long couch, desk and TV, and a large bathroom. Overall, the room was spacious, clean and tidy.
The rate we paid also included a ¥1000 dining voucher that can be used towards a Viking (buffet) breakfast; food selection was somewhat small but very good quality. Bread, pastry, rice, and miso; pretty decent for a transit traveller.
The hotel is situated in a quiet and quaint neighbourhood, with small localities such as a takoyaki shop, few wine houses, a sushi restaurant, a convenience store, and a local shopping mall (AEON/Jusco); all in easy walking distance, and a great way to take in small dose of Japanese everyday culture.
Indeed not as convenient and grand but cost you an arm and a leg like Hotel Nikko, and price competitive but sleeps like a sardine as some smaller local hotels; Kanku Hineno Station Hotel offers a transit traveller a stay that balances price, comfort, and convenience. I’d give them a go again next time.
