“Beautiful”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

It's uphill to get there but worth the effort. All the lanterns are beautiful. Great vista from the top. Lots of small shrines keeps you wanting to see what is next.

“Lovely structures, come see”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

These halls, Nigatsu-do and the adjacent Sangatsu-do, set off to the side of the main Todai-ji temple are picturesque and warrant a visit. Meander through them and enjoy their incredible design, scenic views from their hillside location, and the plethora of photo ops. If you are spending a day in Nara, do stop here.

“Great view and scenery”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

Just about 10 to 15 minutes walk from Todaiji Temple. There is great scenery, shop and a tea house while on the way there. Please be prepare to climb the staircase - about 70 steps. The view on top of the temple is great. Praying is allow and noticed lots of metal lantern hanging around the temple. One of temple that must visit after Todaiji.

“Meaningful with Japanese guide”
Reviewed February 6, 2012

It was raining and chilly while we were exploring Nara, but my husband and I encountered a man from the Nara Guide Club who offered to give us a tour of several temples in the area to practice his English and teach us about Japanese history. We were reluctant at first, but it made our visit so much more meaningful when a guide can tell you about some of the things you cant just read about in the pamphlet. Our guide showed us the complex and told us about the yearly fire ceremonies, and showed us where all the Japanese have to take pictures.
