“Well worth the visit”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

We went to Nara from Kyoto, only about half hour by Shinkasen and spent most of the day but could have been there several more hours in order to see everything. Bringing a lunch would have been a great idea because when you are in the park your choices for eating aver very limited.

The park itself is beautiful and you can find so many temples and shrines any were you look. The entrance is free but there are fees for specific attractions such as Kasuga Taisha and the main golden Buda temple. There are tame deer all over the park and a lot of great photo ops.

Arriving in the city you will be terribly disappointed but the park and attractions are about a 15-20 minute walk. On the way back we took the public bus to the train station and by then you were happy to be driven, there is a lot of walking in ancient Nara.

“Wonderful garden / park”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

In this garden / park you can wonder around for hours. There is quite a bit to see. In particular doing spring and summer time. The deer will keep you company.
Even though very popular you do not feel it is crowded. You may chose to bring your lunch there to sit down and relax.

“Fun to walk around”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

I wasn't sure what to expect, I saw some deer behind a fence and assumed that was it. Boy was I wrong, the deer are everywhere! All the way up the temples and shrines there are deer. There is a good mix of forest and field and the park is nice to relax in. It's so large though, you could walk around for hours just trying to get to other attractions. There are also lots of vendors selling both food for the deer and for yourself, so you can grab an afternoon snack.

“In Nara Everything Is "Giant"”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

Nara is an ambitious day trip but well worth the effort and exhaustion at the end of the day. The Todai-ji Temple is awe inspireing and with the description of being the world's largest building a perfect photo opportunity. The gate leading up to the temple contain two giant "Nio" guardians, or carved wooden warriors that had to have been carved by an artist to rival Michelangelo. The roads leading up to the shrines and temples are dotted with countless stone lanterns that are still being used for various festivals during the year. OThe only thing not oversized in Nara are the pesky deer.

“What does the deer say ?”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Deer, deer everywhere. Need I say more ? The deer are awesome. I like deer.

Even if you don't plan on visiting the park, you're going to pass through it to get to the other attractions anyway. I got to travel with a volunteer English speaking guide. There's a lot of things to know about the deers and the history of Nara. I would highly reccomend getting a guide from the information center. My guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area.
