.We spent two weeks in Japan in April, 2013We did a day trip from Kyoto which is a wonderful place . The trip to Nara is enjoyable in itself. At the Deer Park we were told the Deer bow for food. We listened to our tour guide and sure enough, a number of Deer bowed. This was a wonderful experience especially for my wife who loves animals. I read other reviews and they mention some deer can be aggressive. Don't be concerned.Just be aware. We would definitely love to return to Nara and spend more time exploring..

We visited Nara for a day trip from Kyoto. Nara park is a large park located in the centre of Nara. It houses a lot of Nara's main attractions like Todaiji and Kofukuji Temple. The park is also famous for its deers !
We had the luck to visit Nara when Nara's feast To-kae was going on. They lit up in the city and mainly in the Park some 20,000 candles!
Unique! A must see!

The park and Todaiji Temple are very beautiful, clean and well maintained. The deer are plenty and are used to interacting with people. They expect you to feed them. Be careful though as some deer are very aggressive- they would push you or grab the wafer disks (for deer feeding). Watch out also for deer droppings in the park.
Todaiji Temple is well preserved and is very impressive with the giant Buddha statue in the center. The wooden structure of the Temple and of the gate are magnificent!

Nara park is a beautiful Japanese place full of temples, also you may see many Sitka deers that you can actually feed for 100 yen, prices of temples are cheap and is a different experience totally worth going to.
