This park is located in the central part of Nara City. This mainly green park is full of little water falls, trees coming into blossom and of course the wild deer. They are fairly friendly and if you buy deer crackers to feed them you will have a friend for life. The history in this park dates back centuries and there is so much that sometimes it is hard to absorb it all. Go learn.

Came merely to see these cute animals, so I bought some deer crackers with the intention to play a bit with them but as soon as they saw (or smell?) the food they all went crazy and started circling around me to steal the crackers from my hands, lick my coats! One of them even tried to get a mouthful of my mutcha ice-cream, very cute.

Lots of fabulous temples - Todaji is one of the finest anywhere. The park is so special as there are deer wandering around everywhere. One of the best things about Nara is you can see most of it in a long day and walk Without needing There is a brand new little restaurant arcade slightly behind a few shops where you can stop, rest and eat half way around.

We walked from the railway through the park. The park itself is lovely and it was quite bustling on the sunny day. The temple is wonderful and well worth the entry fee.

Nara park is a great place to visit for a number of reasons. The temples are awesome; particularly Todai-Ji. The forested area is straight out of a fairytale and you will feel like you are in a Grimm story. The tame/feral deer are one of the weirdest things to behold and you will never forget the experience.

Normally, if you are in a location that has deer, the moment they see you, they bolt. Not these deer. They are protected and have, over the years, become the bosses of this town. They are very tame and will come up to you and bow so that you give them some 'deer cookies'. If they see you actually buying deer cookies, they will mob you and hold you to ransom for them. They suddenly become a sort of Mafia that extort your food from you.

Well worth visiting.
