“Impressive building!”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Todai-Ji is a really impressive building! I never went inside and the entrance fee seemed quite high. But the area around it is really nice with ponds, small islands, other religious buildings, and of course the deer. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Nara!

“a must in nara”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

The biggest Buda in the world is here. So it's a must ! I did love Nara a lot. İn Nara this temple and the budist temple with the 1000 lanterns are fascinating. We thought half a day is enough for Nara, but it was so beautiful we nearly spent a hole day there.

“Wow! Impressive temple!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

I really wanted to visit Nara seeing that we were in the Kansai area. My main aim in Nara was to visit Todaiji and see the deer. Apart from that there wasn't much I thought worth seeing.
There is a bus from the JR station straight to the park, otherwise you can walk for around 20 minutes to the park through the city and also on the outskirts of the park where there are also deer. The route to the park and temple is clearly signposted so you won't get lost.
The temple itself is huge. It's the third construction and inside you will see scale models of the previous constructions.
Our visit coincided that of a school visit and we saw the teachers passing the students through a hole of one of the wooden columns in the back of the temple. It was meant to be for good luck. It was really funny as a few of the kids were quite big and got stuck in the hole!
I recommend going to Nara and temple if you are in Kansai. You can do it in 1/2 a day.

“big Buddha”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

The big Buddha in Todaiji is probably the primary site to visit in Nara Park, and it is certainly worth it. The statue, and its colleague statues, speak for themselves. We liked the adjoining Todaiji museum ... be sure to rent an audioguide.

“First thing in Nara”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

Plan to visit this temple for 2 main reasons:
Huge Buddha wooden structure and other wooden work all over the temple & freely roaming deers all across the place.
You can direct bus to this temple from the JR Nara Station.
Feed deers but play safely with them, they can really make you run :P
