My wife and I were there for the Fire ceremony which happens in March every year, the turnout was extraordinary! I think the ceremony looks to create good prosperity for the year.

There would be a monk performing some rituals at the top of the temple where few can see, the highlight of the ceremony is where burning pine tree leaves are burnt and shook off an holding bamboo, creating a snow like flame particles.

A great visit!

This temple is incredible, built entirely out of wood and with a Huge Budha in the center. Having traveled through Europe, this temples still blows you away for its size and fact its made from wood not stone like other large temples.

Take you time walking around, and enjoy the gates and other buildings in the area

This temple is worth the entry fee. It doesn't take long to look around but you might like to try to go through the hole in a pillar in order to reach nirvana!

It's amazing how large this wooden building and the Buddha and accompanying stayed inside are - a must see if you are in Nara or Kyoto

Beautiful ancient wooden Buddhist temple that have gone through 2 major rebuilding. Huge Buddha statue plus a few other impressive deity statues. Rather disappointed that there were no English information boards to describe the building and statues. Other than that, walking around Todaiji is a simple and peaceful trip.

Alighted at JR Nara stn. Took a loop-line bus #2 (JPY200 exact) and drop off at stop N7. Same stop for both Todaiji and Kasuga Taisha shrine. A short stroll from bus stop to Todaiji. You will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of deers and tourist feeding the deers along the way to Todaiji. Took the same loop-line bus back to JR Nara.
